First, let me say that, before I knew that you were someone here, I wanted to punch you in the face for that post. I still kinda do, but I'm glad you're selling this here. Maybe someone will be awesome, buy it, and dump it :gravedigging:

Don't be a boner, I dump shit for free all the time. I just dumped an unreleased Swamp Thing Genesis proto for free, what, like a week ago? Cost me just under $600 for that one, you could easily do something similar here.

If you buy it though, there is at least a 50/50 shot that I'll be rubbing my balls on it first, just so you know what you're getting into

For anyone legitimately interested, I'll drop my asking price to $650 or best offer. Thanks to all interested!

*sigh* Whatever, I just hope this doesn't turn into a chain of a sells it to b thinking b will dump it, b sells it to c hoping c will dump it, c sells it to d, hoping d will dump it, and eventually, z is using it as a buttplug. But whatever, I would totally buy it if I had the cash, it's just 1. My boss this summer cut me like 18 hours overtime on every paycheck (not gonna bother with the legal though, who's gonna believe a 17 year old vs a businessman of 40 years) and 2. My damn classes are raping my budget. Honestly, why do I have to pay $700 to learn stuff I could learn just the same on the internet (half the teachers at my school can't teach worth shit) But whatever, I'm eager to see this dumped if someone will be sweet and break the abc cycle :p

Edit: Other than that punch in the face thing, I meant everything positive in that post. It's just from that post on whatever he seemed like an arrogant asshole waving that in front of peoples faces or something.

Edit (again, I keep leaving things out <_<): I don't hold a grudge on people selling stuff and wanting money etc.. I just have a fear of bitrot and whatnot, I just don't like the guys that don't dump it and keep a digital copy for posterity, and sell it just hoping someone who IS willing to dump it gets it is all.

Yup, I've read this before. I've been getting my fare share of tire kickers recently, so my comments on DP were not to come off like I'm some elitist collector, but to weed out the flood of comments that I'd usually receive. The three things I covered were:

Am I going to dump it?
No, so there really isn't any need to ask.

    Is it for sale?
    Yup!

    Will it be cheap?
Nope! This answer is to avoid the "would you consider $50?" or, my personal favorite, "would you consider a trade for (insert generic common retail game here)".

I don't collect SNES protos, so this sale will likely further fund proto purchases for NES or Genesis that I'll likely end up dumping.

I think the price is pretty reasonable considering the characters involved as well as the notable differences, though I'm definitely willing to negotiate.

I mean, this should be pretty easy, if anyone wants to dump it, buy it. I never understood why people are expecting stuff dumped for free when someone else has to pay for the item.

If I went up to people and asked if I can just use their car and live in their house or demand something for nothing, they'd look at me like I was crazy, yet a lot of guys that want to play protos don't even OWN physical ones nor do they want to pay out of their own pocket to obtain them even to be dumped, they are just expecting it to be given to them.

This is a very good price for a first party SNES prototype. If I was still after protos I'd be all over this.

and honestly, bitrot? I've come across maybe 5 protos out of nearly 2,000 carts I have handled with a small form of bitrot. I deal with arcade machines, they have tons of EPROMS, they are running 30 years later, much older than these games and more EPROMS to worry about and I haven't had issues with those. I know bitrot is an issue, but when? Everyone is guessing on when it happens and it sure seems like 30 years and still going is a thumbs up to me.

But but but, Dream, you can't duplicate a car! Duplicating a game costs nothing! /sarcasm

I'm not saying to dump necessarily to release, but to make sure a digital copy exists in case this does disappear after the sale. Come on guys, I mean well  The dumper could just keep it in a folder on their computer until the time comes that it's fazed into obscurity, they've re-earned their investment, and no harm could come from a release is all.

Just because he says he is "dumping" it doesn't mean he's not doing it privately but that opens a whole other can of worms.

Imagine if you are a buyer and want something undumped and someone still has a copy of it on their hard drive in case of anything. You have to deal with promises the person won't release it unless you ask them to. I'm 100% certain if MrMark was asked to dump something and not release it he wouldn't release it.

This whole thing about "investment" with protos, regardless of what you hear, when they are dumped, they lose value, no question. The ONLY exceptions to the rule are contest carts and first party Nintendo protos....then again if Earthbound had not been dumped I assure you the cart would have been worth $10,000 instead of $1500.

And just to clarify, I'm not against dumping myself. I just couldn't do it when I worked at a video game magazine for 8+ years, and afterwards I've had 25+ unreleased NES protos dumped and I STILL have this stigma about not dumping things, but I just don't dump stuff for free just because of this very issue, you dump stuff for free before, then people expect you to always do it when you want to get some money for something. Simple answer on my end now is just buy my stuff and you do what you want with it, LOL...

Exactly this has happened to me when I bought something unreleased from the marketplace over here. The original seller, a few months after the sale, gave it to some other guy who has not only posted a shitload of screenshots of everything, he is now even looking into releasing it, despite the seller promised me my purchase will make sure it won't be sent to anyone else. I feel scammed and want my money back, but I don't get replies anymore. The original sale thread vanished, so I'm not sure if I can post into the feedback forum... Great. /rant

I think it should be ok to have a copy to make sure it isn't lost forever when the cartridge breaks, but it must not be sent to anyone else unless the buyer contacts you that the cartridge has been broken or something. But of course the seller should have the buyer decide if a copy may be kept.

    Edit: PM sent to Paulo.

I think that is even worse, just because of what DreamTR has said, and what has happened to Denryu. :(

PM me the details. Also post on the feedback forum. The seller should be prevented from being able to rip others off here.

We should also be able to trace the original sales thread.

So I guess it's just a game of buying something, waiting for it to be worth more, selling it, then that person waits for it to be worth more, and so on and so on, so a big money game. Whatever, I just hope those digital backups are kept, if not for release, then for the sake of making sure this stuff isn't lost forever.

If you're that concerned about it go to one of the millions of Mario sites and raise the funds to get it bought and released. The Sonic community did it with drx's Sonic 2 Alpha and almost did it with the Sonic X-treme disc. So it is possible if you can find the right people.

Honestly shouldn't a lot of the garbage in this thread be deleted for obstructing the sale.

It's been some decent discussion for sure, I actually don't overly mind what's been said in the thread, though I appreciate the suggestion for a clean up Skaarg.

Bump! Looking for $550 OBO, though I'm getting closer to looking for this price firm.
