You can't tell me these wouldn't sell! http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=74944&postcount=45 Especially the third one.
I don't know if t-shirts would be very profitable, but I can tell you that I would buy the fourth shirt. The rest of them are equally as awesome but I probably would not wear them in public (as I'm not sure I would with the one I'd buy :lol.
Well, I mentioned shirts because I remember reading it was an idea before, not really because they'd be profitable. Just something I remembered from awhile ago.
just an idea: I know some people here are developers, why not make a simple game and the people who want to help out the forum can donate and the get a small reward.
It would be great phate, but it take time to make a game from scratch (music, graphic, code). I some of you are intrested why not, i'll be pleased to help
It's all about the sizing. They won't sell you mix and match, and I don't want to get stuck with 19 size small shirts that cost $7 each...
I remember the T-shirt contest, I actually couldn't think of anything that ASSEMbler could use as a logo unless it was related to a certain unreleased Sonic game...;-) I think a simple ASSEMbler logo would be the best option. And anyway, about those Tshirts, well you need to spend money to make money with something like that, so making them for a fundraiser and have like ~20~ (and I'm being generous) people buying them, and ASSEMbler would probably be stuck with way more than 19 size small t-shirts.
To be honest, for anything like this to truly work it would have to be in the context of a memorabilia store of some form. Let people buy T-shirts, pens, stationary, magnets, mousepads, posters, etc. Unfortunately, that kind of thing could take a significant investment upfront and I don't know how "commercialized" ASSEMbler wants to be.
Although i wouldn't mind buying T-shirts, pens, stationary, magnets, mousepads, posters, etc i don't think thats the way to go. A lot of people are for and against the ads idea but i think it would be ok to have google ads that sit at the bottom of the site because they wouldn't be intrusive to any part of the site. A small fee is also a good idea if we could find a way of integrating into the site someway as well as taking into account those who aren't rich or who are slighlty better off as they may only be able to spare a few £/$...ect every 2-3 months. There are a lot of good members here who stay and participate in discussions and if possible provide knowlege/information as well as those also who provide Beta/proto....ect downloads and we want to make sure we have members like this and also we want to make sure we get new members who will stay and participate in topics with their oppinion and if possible contribute valid information which aids in gaining more knowelge. Just my thoughts on the matter.
I've been lurking for a couple of years now, and subscribed a few weeks ago. During that time I've found some gold nuggets of information that I'd happily pay for. Either through ads or donations/fees. A compulsory fee would cap the current users and probably scare away quite a few though. There would probably be very very few new users if any at all. Which might sound good to some, but I rather like having anyone with any information/hardware being able to participate. I say try out the ads for a bit. Everyone is so used to them by now that they probably hardly will be noticed. The question is only if they will be so invisible that no one clicks on them...
What about montly raffle/draw for donations? It might encourage people a bit if there was a chance to win a game or some Assembler-themed goodies.
concerning t-shirts: http://www.cafepress.com/ just register a shop kev, people will just pay the cost + an amount you'll take for the fundraising. they have no minimums so you won't get stuck with useless unsold items.... edited: PS i used their service and the quality is great, and so is the way to create item for your shop. PPS this is just a suggestion, i'm sure there are cheaper places around
cafepress is horrible, they only send you money when it his certain amounts. they aim to keep anything short of $20 basically. I'll whip something up decent, like PC badges.
