    Heya

I have a fundraiser going on nesworld.com's forum to release the early version of Superman 64 which is quite different from the now legendary release of Superman 64.

The fundraiser can be found at...
    http://www.nesworld.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1359932915/0#7

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking to raise $350 (donations sofar $290) ... $60 to go!

Well even though the goal hasn't been met, I've decided that now is the time to release the ROM, thank you to everyone who has donated and if anyone feels like donating the rest to meet the goal, you are more than welcome to do so and I thank you :)

Now here's what you've been waiting for.... or some of you at least....

    ROM available here:
    https://mega.co.nz/#!kl12lZYA
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have received quite a bit of negative feedback elsewhere on this fundraiser which has come as a surprise really. I really only did this fundraiser because I saw some interest from people wanting to play the game, but I can't take a loss on it and can't offer it for everyone for free, sorry. I have lowered my expectations regarding the fundraiser and hope to see a little more support/interest instead of bashing.

If there really is no interest in getting this one "out there" anymore - then so be it :)

Yeah, I looked through your NintendoAge thread and was totally surprised to see all the backlash. What the heck?

Might be a little while, 2 or 3 weeks, but I'll be sure to pitch in a bit of cash!

Yep, it's this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JHCn3THgGU. And RWC considers it to be better than the final. :)

I could send a couple of bucks and seeing the beta footage this looks worth funding. but I am almost broke but am willing to chip in a bit to get this rom out. call me crazy but this beta looks like a decent (maybe not good but way better then the final product) game. it looks playable.

Maybe make the rom available for download first rather than make a cart?

Just looked at some of that video, looked like that game should be buried along with the Atari copies of ET.

Why can't you offer it for free?

If you can't afford it, don't buy it.
If you can afford it, release it.

If you want the cart, but are too cheap to actually pay for it, carry on.

Why bother posting in this thread then? We know you don't like fundraisers, so no need to crap up every one.

Oh my, oh my... Thanks for the good advice....

For the record, the cart is in my possession so yeah I could afford it... but here's the thing I do not get. Why should I release the rom because I could afford to buy the cart? If you want to play, please chip in, and if you don't want to do so - I don't think I owe you a ROM really. Fact is that once this ROM has been released, the cart is pretty much worthless, and if you'd like to play this early build - help me cover the loss please, that's all I ask.

Thank you so much to everyone who has chipped in sofar and to those who have shown their support for a fundraiser like this.

I'm not trying to put on an attitude here or scare anyone, but this is definitely my last fundraiser - I own 50+ N64 protos and there's still some good stuff left, but all this negativity has left me discouraged about even attempting to make another rom release (fundraiser). Now bash me for holding other games captive in my collection :)

You seem to have misspelt "utter shite" in a manner that might mislead someone into thinking the retail version was good ;)

You're really surprised that there's negativity over this title?! IGN said the developer didn't "put forth any priorities for this title other than to finish it" and it has a "rushed, careless feel." The game had negative reviews all round, and was universally slated. If the final game felt like it was rushed to get finished, what is an earlier version going to play like?! Different may be interesting to see, but it isn't always better ;)

I wouldn't take it to heart. You'll get criticism no matter what you do with them. Keep them, you're hoarding. Start a fundraiser, you're being greedy. Sell without dumping, you're not supporting the community. Lol, whatever ;)

My own point of view (and it's nothing against you personally) is that this whole fundraiser thing is getting a bit ridiculous.

At first, there were a few key titles - games people knew existed and then they turned up and everyone oohed and aahed, but the current owner wanted a shed load of cash. And so, as nobody could afford it (or, more like a community decided they had a right to play the game rather than have some selfish, rich collector buy it and hoard it), they all chipped in. Lovely.

However, a lot of games (such as this, no offence) have turned up that WERE released and are usually just early versions. And, to be honest, I don't think they're worth a fundraiser.

If it was a well-known version that they'd been working on then scrapped and started from scratch, then sure, I can see the appeal. I just don't see the appeal in paying money for a game that was terrible in its final version.

Now, whilst I don't agree with having a go at you personally, I hope you can understand why some people (as we've seen) might get annoyed and think that people seem to be buying prototypes just because they think some other suckers will help them pay for it. And it does seem in this case, you bought it only a few weeks ago and are already offering it via a fundraiser, so you perhaps had it in mind all along.

I'm sure you can appreciate that such comments probably aren't going to go down very well. "I bought this a few weeks ago, I haven't really tried it, I'm not going to do any comparison. Give me your money and see for yourself."

As for the cartridge being worth nothing, you and I both know that's not true. It will still be worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Admittedly, that may still be less. If it's on one of those big, blank Nintendo carts, though, well they're worth £100 ($150) blank! I don't think that's often considered - you'll still get SOMETHING back for the cart, if you want to sell it.

Now, on the other hand, let's say you've had the game for years and wanted to sell. You paid $500 for it, so you offer it for $500. Nobody bites. So you offer it via a fundraiser for $350 - that's taking the bare cost of the cart that you'll be able to sell into consideration. That sounds pretty reasonable.

So sure, do a fundraiser - but don't moan if you don't get much response. And, especially where you've bought a crap game with what appears to be the intention of doing the fundraiser, don't be surprised if you get a bit of negativity.

Like I said, I'm not having a go at you per se, just trying to help you appreciate where people are probably coming from with their comments. Ultimately, if you want a prototype and can afford it, great! If you're going to buy it purely to "sell on" via fundraiser, though, expect a bit of hostility.

I'm not going to argue against this being a shitty game, but fact is that this is part of N64 history and in this version it seems they did try to do things different - but they were "told to make it even worse".

$150? sure... on a good day

Oh and exploring beta stuff of released games can also be great fun... :)
