Less than 2% of daily visitors donated and less than 0.25% paid for most of the thing.

IMO this is exactly why we need adverts. Those who object can adblock and those who don't, their pittance per view would be welcomed.

So, was my $5 donation not enough for being counted in?

$3,374 raised and we still need ads? Are you kidding me?

This seems like an incredible success to me. Obviously the few paid for the many; that's the nature of donations. The site is funded, that's all that matters.

Couldn't hurt for a war chest of sorts. Could have the ads be disableable for anyone who has a registered account for X number of days like Slashdot does. Adblock is always an option as well.

Eh, this probably isn't the right thread for the debate and we've had it at length before now anyway. I think ads suck and are unnecessary, basically.

No. The site is funded but it is not all that matters.

Around 0.25% of people paid for 98% to enjoy the site at no cost to them. We made the total but in a manner which is in no way fair to the minority, the majority should be chipping in too.

If they don't like the ads, adblock, job done. Those that don't adblock their pittance per view/click would be very welcome. I for one wont be donating £185 again next year, if at all and if the other 10 did the same, for example if they felt they paid their dues, the site coffers would be in very big trouble indeed!

Technically, according to the numbers the 83 that paid this year only had to donate $26.21 each in order for the site to break even (excluding PayPal fees, which should be none/lessened with the move to a credit union).

I think ASSEMbler just said for 2011 he could switch us over to ads, or try to raise the $2200 we need for the forum. Because fundraiser seemed to do really great, reaching the goal and more, the alternative isn't needed now, in this case switching us over to ads, because we reached the goal by the fundraiser.

    Next year is next year.

I was discussing with sonik the ammount to donate (since he wanted to participate on the other fundraiser), but haven't heard from him.

Still, the next time i buy anything with his help, i'll add an extra to be sent to the forum paypal account.

Obviously we disagree. I'm not going to crap up this thread with this argument again, though - let's just be happy that we made the target.

I'm missing from the list too, but I wouldn't worry, according to paypal, my donation went through ok. Your donation has probably been received, but your name has just been missed out the list.

Well done to all who gave something towards this year's upkeep!

You must be one of the two people who didn't follow the
ASG2011 / forumname for the donation email?

I think we met the goal for the year just fine, however the inequality in the ratio of donor / non donor can be addressed with valuable perks.

I aim to have perks for this year that make the donors very happy.

Then theres those of us who have donated when we can, including to releases, but cant stretch funds any further than that :p Of course, donating knowledge is just as useful in my opinion heh. Weddings aren't free either :) That said, thanks to everyone who could donate this year!

Nice one guys. Perks for donors is a good idea and will give people [more of] an incentive to pay.
