I went to my local EBGames store recently, and upon entering I noticed their 360 was frozen in 'Fight Night Round 3'. After saying something about it I was told "yea, we have to restart it about three times a day". He then proceeded to ask if I wanted to buy one (they had about a dozen that apparently no one was buying)... I want next-gen goodness, but the 360s (pathetic) reliability is scaring me away from purchasing one.
That's what you get for having a light version of windows OS on a game console. What ever happened to simple interfaces?
Good lord, just get one. I haven't had any issues with mine, nor have any of my friends. These were all bought on or around launch. If it craps out, just return it or get MS to fix it. They've been very responsive in turning around any defective systems.
Consoles are getting far to complex. So I guess this means the Dreamcast should be shit for having a lite version of Windows CE on it too eh?
That's another issue 360s are having. Certain ones have better/worse frame rates then others due to ram quality issues. I read about MS's process for accepting/rejecting chips a few months ago and while as I don't remember the exacts what it broke down to was that some 360s will run games better then others. The original XBox sometimes had the same issue, but it was very uncommon by comparison.
That problem is true :| My new 360 runs certain parts differently then my old one, its wierd, some parts are choppy where they werent before, and the opposite.
FFS the 360 does not have 'pathetic' reliability. Iv'e read the same things about the xbox, ps2, psone, etc. People with broken units complain, and people with working ones obviously don't. So it sounds like there is a huge problem when I would guess in actuality somthing like 1% have any issues. And store units especially. You're taking a system, shoving it on a small case with bad air flow, and then leaving it on for 12 or more hours....every day, for months. Can't we just agree that all consoles have funny glitches? MS shouldn't catch any more flak than Sony ...
I don't know. I agree that you hear a lot more from complainers than praisers, but I don't recall any widespread problems with launch units for the Gamecube or the PS2 (the DRE's for both came later in their lifespan). It seems that a lot of people are having problems out of the starting gate.
The Dreamcast didn't have a light versions of Windows CE built in, it was just compatible and officially licensed. Also all games made with Windows CE are far worse than those made using Sega's or other dev libraries. Yakumo
...Whatever you do, don't ffs buy a 360 if watching some half arsed video has implanted any kind of doubts in your mind. :noooo: My advice, for what its worth, stick to NES/SNES/N64/Dreamcast/PSX/Atari 2600/etc, etc. ...I mean how many vid's do you see on the net of a NES/....... going faulty?
Actually the NES cartridge port is notoriously bad for crapping out after several years due to a design issue.
I'd say that you should wait for future versions of the 360. Hopefully M$ will have resolved any issues by then, including performance related hardware selections. Just be patient
I might've agreed with you, except for the fact that every single person I know (irl) that owns a 360, launch unit or not, no longer has a working one. This is not something I can say for any other system (6 months after launch at that).
