I decided to watch it yesterday after a year or so of it's release, it was far worser than my worst expectations. What are other people's opinions of it? Is it nothing but shitty ads and reviews of anime for "otaku"? The only reason why I decided to watch was because they aired a halfassed documentary on Atari and tonight they're showing a SNK documentary (both are from last year I think) what I wanna know is there any decent content on this steaming pile of shit channel? Oh yeah, I just remembered that I stumbled on it last year for the video game awards which blew goats. Watching it makes me want to punch every casual gamer since they let crap like this be on TV.
I think that whole channel is terrible. And whats everyones fascination with Morgan Webb? Tommy Tallarico and Adam Sessler are THE biggest tools ever.
I hate G4. They ruined TechTV when they bought them out. TechTV used to have all kinds of neat shows like Nerd Nation, The Screen Savers (WAY better before the buyout), Conspiracies, Call for Help, Body Hits, etc. The only good show on G4 is Icons.
O man dont get me started on that channel :angry At least here in canada we still get Call For Help with Leo. He's doing the show up here in toronto now on the canadian G4 broadcasters.
I dont like that channel. IMO, I think one of thier X play commercials makes fun of hardcore gamers. They have anime on at night around 11:00 p.m., but if I had cartoon network, I would rather watch that. They have another show called "Cheat" which is one of the most casual things to do in a game you havent beat, yet. Almost NONE of the shows has their stuff in order either. X play is the worst, though. I do, however, like Cinematech, Icons, Filter (X playish type show with two more "serious" gamer guys) and maybe Arena, too. The only times I agreed with X play was when they were making fun of MGS2's wierd-ass ending, and when they gave Fire emblem for the GBA a 5 out of 5. But, however, that is the only "Video game channel" at my house, and so I watch it occasionally. Usually, looking at reviews and shaking my fist in anger at the TV, when Paper Mario 2 was given a 2/5 for having too much talking. O_O? (An rpg with too much talking....? Ridiculous.) I do like to watch everything on that channel around E3 time, though. They think they are hardcore, but they are about as casual as casual gets. So, in conclusion, Kyusakku, you should watch 1.ICONS-tells cool info about everyones favorite gaming Icons. 2.CINEMATECH-Shows footage from games in a series or similair games. 3.JUDGEMENT DAY-A game and device rating show that is way better than X-play, IMO. The guys dont act like ass clowns like Adam Sessler, either. 4.ARENA-What can I say? Watching people Pwn each other can be fun, at times, and they dont do just FPS games. (Fighters, FPS, Sports, etc.) What they do changes every day, though. 5. X-PLAY- I know I have been bad mouthing the show, but it is funny, sometimes. They dont know shit, though. Like thinking "Tales of Destiny" was the first of Namcos "Tales of" series. Recently, they made a commerical making fun of people that know more than them. I think I saw about 5 minutes of Icons today, it didn't leave an impression. I'm going to watch the SNK thing tonight but I think I'm going to stay away from the channel. I can't relate to 99% of what they talk about, afterall I'm not really an American gamer much less a 8 year old gamer, although I do love my Spyro and Crash games.
the channel went downhill with the namechange from ZDTV to TechTv and then really started blowing monkey balls when it went to G4....when they loose enough viewers they'll bring back Leo and straighten the lineup....hopefully :smt045
The SNK thing was kinda crappy since it's white guys talking about things they have no clue about and the Japanese people are talking about nothing of importance. Icons really is the only decent show but so far it hasn't taught me anything I don't already know, I don't think they CAN teach me anything :\
AT least one of the Tips and Tricks staffers will pop up daily on g4. It is usually Anatole Brown though.
They should focus more on developers though. Not big shots like Miyamoto or the CEO of SCEA (like he's significant in the industry). They should do interviews, go into studios and give the audience a peek at what they are making, etc. Grant it, the reason they have "crap" is because its like holywood and MTV. It is more like an elongnated infomercial for videogames. I should say that I never watched the channel since I dont have digital cable or sattelite TV, just basic cable. Overall, the people who hate it are not the people the channel is aimed for. It's aimed for children so that they can pester their parents to buy the game they are talking about 24/7, its how that channel stays alive via advertising both in the programs and out of the programs.
I hate G4TV with a passion. Too mainstream and focused for casual gamers for my tastes...kind of like a TV version of the modern EGM Magazine. I hope it dies a painful death soon...
It's a commercial channel that needs ads to stay alive, what do you expect? They need to aim big to attract advertisers, quite logical they don't bother with the hardcore 'crowds'. Be glad there is a 24/7 games channel, where I live there aren't really things like that (only commercial stuff).
