The availability is surely falling. I'm now sourcing crap for a friend in Japan who previously could go to Gametech or some other iffy store, now he can't find them. Apparently, Nintendo is finally doing the dirty work, not the authorities

I'm not really a Nintendo man, but have never seen that stuff in the first place. I do know though, that the police do their work in waves. Illegal drugs became very taboo about my 4th year in Japan. The next year, they were busting prostitutes. Perhaps this year is piracy!

 

I found loads of pirate GB carts in a video store in Nishi-Funabashi... I think they had been there for quite some time, as they were like 100 yen apiece :smt043

They aren't super-frequent, but lots of spam sites use search robots/spiders - similar to how Google and other metasearch engines work - to comb websites for e-mail addresses. Sure, we know we're not being totally secure with the name(at)domain business, but every little step helps.
