Game Boy Action Replay dead

I have an Action Replay for Game Boy that has worked fine in the past, but has sat on my shelf for years now. I plugged it in last night, and got nothing from it. So I pulled it apart and started probing with my multimeter. I found nothing unusual.
So I tried simply reflowing the pins on the cartridge slot, and on the chips. Low and behold it sprang to life. Yay. I assumed it was fixed, and went to bed.
Tried it again this morning, and it's broke again....

So I got the WD40 out and really went to town cleaning all the pins and even used a bit baking soda to scrub the oxidation off the pins. No dice. Still not working. Tested continuity on all the cartridge pins, they all check out fine.
So I am stumped, I have no idea what to try now. I am 99% certain it isn't as issue with dirty pins or anything that simple. I've also tried replacing the resistors with newer ones. No difference.

My next thought is to burn a new rom and replace the PLCC chip. I need the Action Replay Xtreme ROM though. I doubt anybody has it...

if it worked once, my guess is still corrosion. try something midly corrosive like vinagre? or silver polish.

 

I've already re-tinned all the pins with solder, im 99.9% certain theres no problem with dirty pins etc. I've had the thing in and out of my gameboy easily over 100 times now and I get the exact same white screen every time. Only once I have switched it on, and it went to a black screen, but then it was back to white screen after that

well i guess a chip could have a broken connection inside, that got a temp fix when you heated it. if so, bummer.

 

The ic pins or the edge connector?
If the edge connector - this is a huge issue. Do not do this.

i did both, but why is it bad to re-tin the edge connector? it's not like I coated it with a thick layer of solder. I basically put i thin layer of solder on them, then went over them all with de-soldering braid

 

possibly the Cart Slot pins are dirty , you may want to try Deoxit on them. Just a simple thin cloth wrapped around a Credit Card soaked in Deoxit.

 

I thought the same, but I've already tried cleaning them using the credit card cloth method with IPA and WD40, nothing seems to work though

 

One, it's not going to be level across all pins. 2, solder is too soft and you will end up with solder in the cart slot and possible shorts. Yes it won't be much, but shouldn't tin edge connectors in solder.

well it works exactly as it did before...

Anyway, any suggestions other than replacing the eeprom? (I plan on doing that soon)

 

I've dumped a bunch of different GB Gamesharks and Action Replays. The files haven't been released anywhere.

I have two different Action Replay Xtreme V4.2 files. One is the standard version and the other is the Crystal version.

If you're able to desolder the PLCC and read it out, then send me the file and I'll compare it to my dump.

Ok, I really do not know anything about reading or programming chips, but I have the PLCC chip desoldered, and I have a K150 programmer. Could you give me a quick rundown on how to read out the chip?
