    Hi there everyone!

I am currently doing a mod on a Game Boy Pocket, unfortunately I have hit a stop.
The thing I am looking for, is a totally clear Game Boy Pocket screen lens, a lens without any paint at all.
So basically a clear piece of acrylic (or whatever the material is) shaped to fit a Game Boy Pocket.
I have tried contacting resellers from China without luck.
I then spoke to Matt from Kitsch Bent, who will produce some at some point, but don´t have a eta at the moment (could be years, months).
Is there anyone who knows a way of removing the paint, of a current lens?
Or anyone who is capable of cutting a lens themselves I could talk to?
At the moment I am using a piece I cut myself from a old CD-case, but it is not pretty.....
Looking forward to hear from you!

Basically one of these, without paint!

    Thanks!

    - Mads

Well that sounds like an easy job for anyone with access to a laser cutter, eg in a hackerspace (also going by "fab lab" a lot these days), I guess...? Have you looked around if sth like that is available in your area? If you have someone else do it, some measurements (thickness, width/height, corner radii) would help though. Or since it's relatively thin material you could even try the DIY route, with sth like a hacksaw (or maybe even just a carpet knife) and a file. You seem to have some experience already, just need to step it up to some decent material :p
(also, pics plox? would be interested to see how it looks)

I am from Copenhagen Denmark, and I do know of a lasercutter shop nearby.
But it is so unbelievable expensive, even for the smallest of tasks. :)

Are you in ahurry for this ? i should check for the thickness of the lens, and check if i have such thickness in stock at my job.
I work in a company that can do such milling.
I live in France, i coul check for posting this to you. If still interested (nad if I have the good material).

That's why I said "hackerspace". Most I know are pay-what-you-want; some have a membership fee, but none are what I would call expensive. Of course you have to (or rather, are allowed to :)) do the actual cutting yourself.
Kinda moot now since you found a volunteer already, but I find it's generally good to know where one can get access to good machinery and tools.

    Quick update on this one!
I tried with acetone and a plastic screen, but it destroyed the plastic.
I then purchased a Glass Screen, put it acetone without any effect.
Then I tried with hot water, a rubber and a sponger + a LOT of patience!!!
About two hours later, I got the result I was dreaming of.
And here it is, thank you to everyone who helped me in this thread!
I need a couple of items from ebay before I can show you what I am going to use the clear screen for.
But I will upload it, once its done.

    Cheers!

Looking forward to seeing the end result. Already decided howyou will hold it in place, since any glue or whatever will be in plain sight?

You really have nothing to apologize for.
I am greatfull that you would look into matters for me.
No visible scratches as far as I can tell.
I will use a very thin black tape around the edges :)
I´ve managed to do it on a DMG once, so this shouldn´t be much different :)
