Kotaku sucks. It's amazing how far they've fallen and continue to fall.

Let's hope the episodes are completely untouched.

The subtitles by TV-Nihon are great despite not always being of top-notch high-quality, but that has its own charme. If they did it the same way, with Japanese text still on the screen (subbed) and Japanese audio w/subs, it would be something to drool about. I'm literally watching Game Center CX all the time, although I've watched every subtitled episode at least 15 times.

    A dub won't stand a chance.

It seems to me like dubbing would be more work than subbing, unless they're doing a cop out job of it and just using a very loose translation to piece together a 'dub' that isnt really entirely accurate of a translation.

apparently theyre only airing the first season and seeing it how goes, I worry that a dub will fail miserably and ultimately doom the show from ever getting fully translated

I watched it and I must say I am suprised how decent the translation is. It seems what they did was just dub the announcer and subtitle everyone on the show. Some text seems left untranslated and is just mentioned in the narration. Oddly it starts with the 4th season, and the premier episode is a later episode in the season.

I guess they felt ninja gaiden would be a stronger start. First 3 seasons I imagine they skipped cause it's mostly classics that were released in japan only as well as the fact that the first 2 or 3 had already been fan subbed.

    The problems are:

    1) the subtitles change position all over the place to try and not cover up jap overlays (move to top right of screen etc), they should have just stayed universally along bottom

    2) dubbed narrator is fucking horrible

    3) alot of stuff remained unsubbed & undubbed (king speech, etc)

    4) all the extra parts are cut (visit a game center, random famicom game highlights, etc)

plenty of great games were highlighted in first two seasons, my guess is that they are gonna release episodes that are already available on dvd in japan (the japanese dvd releases are 'best of' collections, not seasons)

Thats a pretty big problem as those extras are some of the best bits outside the challenges, at least on the dvds the game centre visits are still left in. The dvds while not entire collections of all the episodes in a season i'll still get them over watching the dub as without Arino's original voice it loses all it's charm, the other bonus is they have extra segments that didnt appear in the show like extra challenges & directors cuts on the dvds.

It looks like they are picking episodes at random. My guess why the other segments are not translated is budget reason. Probably cheaper just to translate the parts where hes playing the game since its for the internet.

I think it's a huge oversight leaving out the history segments and the parts where he meets people in the industry, I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy seeing these little 'blasts from the past'. I can kind of understand why the Game Centre or arcade segments are removed because very few people will get to see them or visit them but they too are a nice added touch and should have been left in too just so viewers can see how bad Arino is when trying to play the UFO catchers :)
