Except the power never just dies - you'll notice wireless range decrease first, at which point you move closer to the tv if you're lazy, or if you aren't you pause and go find new batteries. I'd rather have replaceables, with rechargeables If the battery died I'd have to wait for the thing to charge before playing - that is as a cheapskate who wouldnt buy 2 sets of batteries.

    I know that.......

  3. So what the heck is the purpose of putting that MadCatz Retrocon way the hell out there in left field? I mean, how is that relevant to any controller evolution??

I believe the Atari wireless sent the signal via infrared, like a remote, instead of an RF signal which all wireless controllers do nowadays. More info to confirm this or say otherwise is greatly appreciated.

I dont know wtf i was thinking when I typed that. I ment that RF technology has improved and changed a bit. I think the style the atari controller might have been more like what was used in RC cars vs RF used in newer devices (like 2.4Ghz wireless devices).

I do realise its not RF. I have yet to use one but I dont think it's IR (Infrared) either like the nes satellite was.

Here is a little info on another wireless controller for the atari that used radio freq much like a toy RC.

  8. Actually, it can play SG-1000 games, too.

Oh, and don't the current generation of wireless controllers use 2.4GHz? That isn't RF, it's fucking microwave. You guys are broadcasting microwaves into your crotches with these wireless controllers.

I dont use the wavebird anymore, but that may be a good way to avoid unplanned parenthood:lol:

  10. Eh, they're decent enough controllers--I've got one too, but the analog sticks are pretty stiff on the R3/L3 buttons. Yeah, it's a good controller, but I can think of so many third party controllers that are much better, and I just didn't get why it takes a special place in the diagram, as though the Nintendo and Sony controllers were merely instrumental in giving birth to this bizarre progeny.

  12. I use the sort that *DOESN'T* broadcast microwaves into my crotch.

Is this a wired controller or blutooth controller? I'd certainly would like to know so I can check out this non 2.4ghz controller. Also, they use a low-band microwave. It's within the spectrum but won't cause interference with microwave communications, etc, but I don't know about it zapping your balls into prunes. Besides, who puts the controllers between their legs anyway?.

  14. I'm pretty sure bluetooth is 2.4GHz as well. I only use wired controllers, though that actually has more to do with the fact that I don't even have any of the modern systems that use 2.4GHz wireless controllers than it does with any great fear becoming barren. (My boys are powerful! They'd thrive in freaking gamma rays!)

How do you hold your controllers, though? I usually rest mine in my lap (or on my belly when I'm really kicking back). Actually holding a controller up in the air in front of me gets tired pretty quick.

Ehem... what radio frequencies do you think it IS safe to broadcast into your crotch?

Most wireless controllers use 2.4, along with microwaves, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11i, bluetooth... most anything else would be in the 800 mhz or 5.2 ghz ranges. If microwaves are bad (2.4Ghz) then what makes you think a higher frequency would be better? Remember, cellphones operate at 800 mhz, 900 mhz, 1700 mhz, 1800 mhz, 1850 mhz, and 1900 mhz (Just in the US, i know japan uses some odd frequencies, europe should be within what i listed above). Cell phones have a range of up to 18 miles, what makes you think you're escaping radio frequencies?

*ProgrammingAce puts on his tin foil hat....*

  16. Oh, I was mostly kidding. It just sounds bad--microwaves being broadcast into your testicles, that is--regardless of the actual threat.

it's not sterility, but 2.4GHz--and 900MHz radio waves, too, for that matter--may well lead to cancer, but I'm not really worried about that even if I do believe it. I mean, what the hell in our environment doesn't give us cancer? I'm well reconciled to the fact that I'll be getting cancer...(checks watch)...pretty soon now, actually.

I prefer sterility rather than brain cancer.

And cancer is not a joke, 1 of every 2 americans is going to have cancer along his life, and I think 1 of 4 or 5 will die of it.

Cellphones are just a slice of the big pie, the other is the increase in pollution, mostly from big-ass SUVs, and the destruction of our forests (yeah, rainforests are still there)

Where did you get those statistics from?

  19. There's no such things as statistics on the future, so I'm sure he made them up, but in my opinion he's underestimating if anything. I'm not joking at all when I say that I and pretty much everyone else my age will get cancer. But because it will be so widespread in the coming generation, I don't think it should be anything to be afraid of, more like just a normal part of aging (and like other normal parts of aging, there will always be people who fight like hell against it and those that accept it and continue to live their lives).

Shadowlayer didn't mention pesticides, chemicals and hormones filling our environents, GE organisms filling our food, poor diets and health and generally increasing life-spans despite all those things.

So love your cancer, I say! It's not some alien invader to your body, it's just the part of you that got freaky!

I think the likely hood of getting cancer is greater if you live in a city or industrial area rather than out in the country/rural areas. It's all about where you live.
