I remember seeing this awhile back, excellent modding skills. Some other interesting mods on his site. Think I'm gonna give GG mod ago myself.
Holly shit! This guy also made a complete copy of KITT, the car from Knight Rider, the original 80's show, not that crap from recently. It took 7 years. Here's the final page - http://www.lcv.ne.jp/~aiaki/kitt/knight2000/mgskitt.html From there you can find a break down of all the jobs he did.
I've seen it before, but each time I do I always think about how cute it is, like two SMS had a baby.
I want one. But then my EDMD and Master System support tells me not to spend money trying to make one...
Planning on using a DIN connector for the output? Would be nice to have it in line with bog standard MD SCART cables. Been extremely tempted to "consolize" a GameGear but I haven't had the time or energy to do more than look at schematics and check out part prices. A proper case that isn't a GameGear with ports all over the place would be very nice.
Yes I have allowed the AV port hole size to suit either the MD1 8 pin din or the MD2 9 pin mini-din. The 9 pin mini-din might look odd though as the hole will be absolutely HUGE! Myself I would use a MD2 since the GG outputs stereo. What I might do is reduce the hole size to a "pilot" hole and leave that choice to the person doing the mod.....
The general feeling over at Sega-16 was light in the power switch lol! Personally it doesn't worry me too much, I wanted to select a switch and try and design it so the bezel of the switch was recessed, it might be too hard. I might leave it blank and leave it up to people to select themselves. Speaking with Tim (Viletim SMSPower) he has given me some awesome ideas, which I hope to chase up. Unfortunately it may mean starting from scratch, but it may cut down costs.
^This^ you can get a switches and separate LEDs for pennies, you should also make yourself a mockup using any shitty materials you can find lying around just to make sure you got the demensions right. I've seen many people develop things in CAD for them to be impossible in reality.
Neat! Hey, you could put in the Game Gear TV tuner cartridge, then you could watch TV on your, er, TV... You know what, let's just leave it at "Neat!"
I have been doing interference checks on everything so far, the controller ports, allowing for 90 deg DE9 ports was a bitch lol!
I just thought. Anyone could build one of these, well the case at least. Once you have the design you could have it 3D printed. This is something Ben should do. He is amazing at making modded systems but every one of his designs suck major ass. He really has no concept of good design style. Like I said though, he is a God when it comes to modding hardware.
