I'm living in a completely different universe from the rest of you. My vote for GOTY would have to be Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3. Atlus wins courage points for having the guts to release this in the United States, even though it's not the best representative of its genre. Insanely addictive, and you're not quite sure if the social minigames are supporting your ability to crawl the dungeon, or if it's the other way around. Deliberate and plausible characterization helps put this in the top tier of JRPGs available to westerners. I spent more time this year with Persona 3 than with any other game, and that's even if you count Oblivion, Phantasy Star Universe, the .Hack sequels and everything that Nippon Ichi printed this year.
CoD4 is short as hell, but is the best FPS out right now. I played Halo 3 to death, but they should measure FPS's on if they were released before or after CoD4, like A.D. and B.C. does for history. Halo 3 has a layer of dust collecing on it's case now. I figure SMG will win this award all over the internet though, as it's mario, innovative, and is the 1st blockbuster game to buy a wii for I suppose. As for the orange box. The games are okay, even though half life 2 still is horrible at loading like it always has. I've never played a next gen game that loads as abruptly and often as this does. Annoying. I've put 8 hours into HL2, and I'm not even done. Great depth. I'll vote for CoD4.
I forgot about that too. I got it for the woman and she said it kicks ass, I just don't play my PS2 much.
Its gonna have to be Halo3 for me iv waited so long to "Finish the fight" that and the multiplayer features make it just that bit better than bioshock for me I think Guitar Hero 3 and FF Crisis Core deserves to be in the list though
Nice to see a poll with a good turn out, can those who vote other please state what they would choose for game of the year. my vote went to Bioshock.
It was very hard for me to decide which game to pick, the Orange Box was awesome, well actually just Ep2 and Portal, there aren't any TF2 servers here in my country yet so that got it out of my list. I don't own a 360 so i Halo 3 is out of the list. Bioshock, i thought it was Awesome, great graphics, great storyline, a bit short (the only downside are the endings). So For me Bioshock is the game of the yearr
Uncharted looked exactly like Tomb Raider to me, is it? I love TR so it's not a bad thing. I voted Halo 3 because it's the game I got the most excited for and I still find it a blast at LAN's.
Halo 3 for me, best fun i've had with my 360 since i got it well over a year ago. The multiplayer is just kick ass
...Everytime someone votes for Halo 3 an angel dies somewhere in the world. *Hopes the old guilt trip ploy works again*
I guess people just really like that game... :icon_bigg Which of these games were voted in the "Other" category? Contra 4 Uncharted Ratchet GT 5 Prologue (does that even count as a full release? i don't really Gran Turismo and their whole prologue deal...) Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3 Guitar Hero 3 FF Crisis Core I just put down the ones people mentioned...
GT5 Prologue is a sold game that you can buy in shops, it may be only a cut down version of Gran Turismo 5 but it's still a game that is likely to sell well on release...
If you say so. It just doesn't seem like a cut down version of a game would be able to compete for Game of the Year. Especially when you have something like the Orange Box as a contender. You've got one of the great games of all time, bundled with two expansions, a multiplayer game, and a great action puzzle game, all of them together in one package. That's just my opinion. Honestly, can a prologue seriously contend for game of the year? Honestly?
I don't think Orange Box should win, unless Portal is really that good. Why? Because two of those games are years old...it just really doesn't make sense to me. I guess it's a good deal, but HL2 and episode 1 don't cost much I don't think standalone. Dunno.
Bioshock because it impressed me in both graphics, gameplay and story (other than the ending...) but Blue Dragon was the more enjoyable game overall despite being too easy. I voted Bioshock though because I am drunk and didn't read there was an "other" category...
