I got this original GBA modded with a backlit screen, but its on/off switch is very unreliable. Sometimes it turns on at once; sometimes it takes up to 3-4 tries to get the console on.

When it doesn't work the screen/audio/power led still pop, as if there was some sort of contact, but it doesn't stay on.

Any repairing guides on how to fix a power switch? I couldn't find anything online.

Does it sound like a soldering issue?

    Thanks!!

If you're comfortable with opening the system it wouldn't hurt to look, could be a faulty switch or loose or broken solder joints. I had a psone that had power issues and it had bad solder joints at the power jack, a quick reheat fixed it.

Without any photos of the board it's hard to tell. If you're getting power but nothing else is working it might be more than bad solder joints.

Not sure about the original GBA but the GBA SP2 power switch it actually a resistive slider (like the volume slider) but the plastic piece makes it lock into 2 positions, check if it's on but got a high resistance.
