Gamecube Laser Assembly

    So I bought a gamecube from the flea market only to find that it wouldn't read games. It powers fine, gets good audio/video, and so forth. So I ordered a replacement laser assembly and installed it using a couple videos I found online. When I put everything back together to test, the disc won't even spin. Any idea what I may have done wrong? it seems like I did what the walkthroughs said, at least it seems that way.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    These assemblies usually have a solder blob which is an anti-static protector, you have to remove the solder blob before it will work and since this is the cube we're talking about you might have to tweak the pot for it to work. I would get the original reading off of the old laser and try to use the same setting on the new one if the anti-static blob is removed and still won't read discs.

    I dont think the gc laser has an anti static point. Probably just the pot needs tweaked. There are a bunch of guides out there how to do it if you aren't sure.

    It does have an anti stactic point. i was wrong.

    well according to the ebay ad it does, but I don't remember seeing one when I was working on it (from what I can tell the anti-static points stick out quite a bit). I'll take it back apart to be certain.

    As for "tweaking the pot" I saw sme information about that when I first had the issue. I'll do that as well.

    I really appreciate the help, guys. Hopefully, this will fix it right up.

    In a GC optical lens, the ESD solder protection point is located at ribbon cable.
    The "pot" that people use to tweak is located at the drive controller PCB.
