I was flicking though some old magazines today and I came across this Advert for Console Concepts in the UK. They were a games importer in the 90's and it just so happens this is where I used to work!
Hey look, it's the PS3 pad!! Oh, how I wish they had kept with that awful batarang crap of a controller. It would have gave me so many laughs. Oh well, at least I had a good laugh when they first showed it and said rumble was so last gen. Yeah, what ever you say :033: I thought it was the end user that decided what was in or out? Yakumo
You know they ended up releasing controllers with a rumble feature, right? They called it the DualShock 3.
Yes I know and the DualShock 3 looks just like every other PlayStation pad since day one. It was funny seeing them eat their own words though.
It's not like the boomerang style wasn't a pretty common design, just look at Microsoft's Sidewinder pads (for example). Oooh, this one had motion sensors just like the Sixaxis!
Monkey ..... now there is an interesting one ;-) I cannot remember off top of my head what this would have been (it was 19 yeas ago) I will have a scan around to see if I can work this out. Another Ad, this one from December 1992: PARODIOS still up for grabs ;-)
I have a bunch of HR scans of video game magazines somewhere. Will have to post them some time. I do have smaller versions on my facebook so will definately post them soon.
I remember the Console Concepts adverts in Mean Machines, C&VG, SuperPlay etc. In fact, that's probably where my Super Famicom came from  Also, Monkey = Chuuka Taisen / Cloud Master?
I wish I could find a copy of the old Computer Exchange comic adverts you used to get in the early 90s...
I got my first Neo Geo AES and PC Engine courtesy of Console Concepts and Mr Colin 'Thieving Bastard' Dimond  I'm originally from Stoke so used to nip into 'Castle every Saturday that I wasn't working and the various shops were a great source of amazing rarities but the prices started to become ridiculous, plus the fact that one person would pay double that of another if you weren't on his buddy list. It's a pity he completely fucked Fantasy World over, his under the counter dealings must have cost them an absolute fortune.
The original PlayStation pad was gray and didn't have analog sticks or a rumble feature. But yeah, the DualShock 3 is pretty much the same as the DualShock 2, except it's wireless, has analog triggers, a few lights, a home button, and slightly different analog sticks. Anyway, I like the DualShock 3. It has my second favorite analog sticks, next to the Gamecube analog stick (and the Hori Mini Pad 64, which is basically the same thing). The d-pad isn't great, but I actually like it better than the shit one on the 360 controller. Yes, even the "improved" one. Even that one feels really clunky to me. The DS3 is also a lot lighter than the 360 controller.
I've seen that picture before... Shitty mobile phone pic, but you get the idea... nice use of black above the dragon. ;D
