You might be quite right on that. But what an amateur, not even knowing about cloud master?!..ROLFMAUL!
I suspect that the use of the title "Monkey" was an attempt to tie in with one of the re-runs of the popular 70's series monkey (Saiyuki) In the series the character Monkey had the power to summon clouds. (Cloud Master) Monkey Cloud Chase scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hfp73qjf6E .
Awesome that you worked there. I got a couple of MD games back in the day. Never visited it sadly, not in that neck of the woods, just a couple of calls re titles I wanted. Happen to have any piccies of it? I wish I'd taken some of my local importers back then.
Hi Wheelaa Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the store :-( I wish that I had taken a load in the day as it was quite an awesome place to be. Console Concepts had a quite large store in Newcastle-under-Lyme that was the hub of the importing and mail order business. Also there was a smaller store in Hanley (Stoke-on-Trent) that mainly dealt with UK based consoles and game exchanges etc. The Village shopping centre where the Newcastle-under-Lyme shop was was made into one big area and converted into a Dunelm. Similar fate with the Hanley store, this became part of a Matalan Store. The sort of good news is that I still see a couple of the gang who either used to work at or visit the store. I also have the contact details of the original owner. So I am going to see if I can get my hands on some.
Looks like you have met Colin then ;-) LOL The last time I saw him was when he was working at Fantasy World. When you used to nip around the shops in Castle, did you also go into ComputerHouse / PD Direct?
I got my Mega Drive from Console Concepts, early '91, I was 11. I pulled a sicky from school & my ma drove me there, got it with Golden Axe, Castle of Illusion & Super Monaco GP. Probably still the best day of my life! We had an Acorn Electron at the time so it was some upgrade. I remember having a quick go on Hellfire in the shop, & seeing a Super Famicom running SMW. At the time the SFC seemed almost impossibly exotic. Great days
