Hey all, I was thinking; What early launch games for other systems do you think were destined for Dreamcast?

I know things like Buffy, Max Payne, House of the Dead III, Red Faction and the works were in planning but what about things like Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness? Was that planned then dumped early on?

Maybe some of the early Tom Clancy games too....
My mind boggles with what could have been :/

Jet Set Radio Future and Super Monkey Ball are 2 I think were for sure DC games, Panzer Dragoon Orta maybe but that game looks insane for an Xbox game, makes me think it was developed after. Virtua Fighter 4 is one I think would be for Dreamcast.

What about early PS2 games? Bouncer? Ridge Racer? Tekken?

I doubt they would have been planned as Square never supported the Dreamcast and Ridge Racer and Tekken where exclusively Playstation franchises at the time

Do you think the original Splinter Cell would have made it? Also Stuntman in theory would have been Eden/Atari...

Sega themselves could have ported lots of their arcade games and at the same time bring back some classic franchises.

Virtua Fighter 4 is by far the greatest tragedy, that was so close to a Dreamcast release I reckon.

Super Monkey Ball, Beach Spikers, Real Life Career Crisis were all due at some point in 2002 weren't they? Dreamcast could have made it's name with PC ports too I think games like Messiah, Max Payne, Tropico, Commandoes 2, Half-Life - all that was second wave quality for sure.

If recall correctly, there was a lot of buzz early on regarding the possibility of Namco porting Tekken Tag on the Dreamcast after the overwhelming success of Soul Calibur on the platform. I mean, it would have made sense to released it on both consoles considering Dreamcast could have effortlessly handled the game, perhaps even moreso than the PS2.

That's hardly the point. Having Tekken tag on the Dreamcast after Souls release would have been simply marvelous and would have certainly tip the scales in SEGA's favor! I originally bought a PS2 on launch just for Tag. I'm certain Tag on DC would have looked even more impressive than the end result that was achieved on PS2. Oh well, I always have Tekken 3 bleem to enjoy every once in a while.

Here is my rigorous analysis of titles that were in development for DC but went unreleased. All titles on the list are backed up by magazine or other reputable press reports from the time of the DC's life that indicate a dreamcast version of the game was actually shown or partially developed. It excludes several games you will see mentioned on sites like unseen64, like Chakan and Scud Race. My analysis for those titles is buried in the thread.

Yeah I remeber that. Namco probably got a lot of money from Sony for not bringing it to DC.

To quote legit, from this Geist Force thread:

    http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...iming-for-the-torrent/page6&highlight=warhead

"This is the kind of bullshit why I never bothered to dump and share Actua Soccer 4, Flintstones Viva! Rock Vegas, GP500, Heroes of Might and Magic III, Propellor Arena, Test Drive Cycles, Warhead for the Sega Dreamcast"

Perhaps he could shed some light on what he remembers of these games, or where they ended up?

I've heard of all the rest:

Flintstones (I used to own the white label disc)
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (I remember discussion about the GDRom years ago, apparently it ran like a snail - but my impression is that it was complete. Last I heard it ended up in the hands of a well known Russian uploader of DC iso's who promised to upload it some day... Sadly, that was about 3 or 4 years ago)
Propeller Arena (We all know about this one...)
Test Drive Cycles (Been up for sale a number of times here, well... at least 2 or 3 times. As stated, just a very basic tech demo)

Except for HOMAM3 these games above don't hold much interest now - most of us know about them, and all their various travels...

It's the three other games Legit mentioned: Actual Soccer 4, GP500, and Warhead, that I've never seen mentioned anywhere else until his post - so it's quite surprising to learn he owned GDRoms of them but didn't rip them. What state were they in? Just tech demos or near completion? There have been countless discussions about unreleased Dreamcast games, I'm curious to know why they were never mentioned before?

The only other games known to exist in playable form, but haven't been leaked are:

    Worms Pinball
Take The Bullet - (I wonder if this one only ran on a devkit and was never on a GDRom to begin with? This would explain its long absence, since the original posts, with screenshots, over at the now defunct dreamcasthistory.com website)
