http://boards.sega.com/sega/viewtopic.php?t=59756 Wow is it just me or is Gamespot completely and utterly retarded?
well, what do you expect from Gamespot. The Master System has some really good games on it. I can name 5 much worse systems for games right now - Jaguar, CDI, Virtual Boy, PC-FX (sorry ray: ) and Amstrad GX. The Master System had more good games than those systems put together. Yakumo
It wouldn't be unusual to see a US outlet dismiss the Master System. It was absolutely hammered by the NES in the States. Asking them to hold the Master System in high regard would be like asking a US outlet to report on what a success the MiniDisc was. If you're in Japan or Europe, the MD was a successful format. If you're in the US it was a failure. Perspective is everything. -hl718
Agreed, I love my Master System for the fact that I love video games. Good games seem to be few and far between on it...in the US anyway. Pretty much the only joy I get out of mine is Fantasy Zone...which is a whole lot o' joy. I still think Gamespot sucks...but when we got so little SMS goodness...and so much NES goodness...it's not too hard to see why they don't consider SMS a priority.
I agree. But it was hammered because the "good and honest" Nintendo didn't let third parties to develop for it. Plus SEGA distribution in USA was terrible as i read many times in some articles. Although i started playing videogames on the Atari 2600, it was the Master System and SEGA Arcades that made me love playing games.
Hmmmm I don´t know what to think of Gamespot´s opinion, of all the games I had back, when I had the Master System, and the games I borrowed (and returned back after borrowing them from friends), I must say I had California Games, I had Altered Beast, I had Wonderboy 3 I had of course Alex Kid in Miracleland built in. I had Great Golf (the most boring of those I had ), and some I have forgotten, since I know I have played Slapshot also, but I donm´t know if it was mine or not. But I had played so many, even Lord of the sword. And Space Harrier, so I have not a word about his opinion, other than shaking my head in dismay. And off the SMS roms I have played, and that is quite alot. I even think there are a hell alot of great shooters on the SMS, and well some of them aren´t great. But many of them are. So I really love the SMS, but I don´t know what to say. Other than saying, I loved having an Amiga 2000 with an HD , I really loved having an SMS. And I am thankfull for choosing a SNES, vs a Megadrive. So all and all. Gamesport can kiss my hairy arse. Of all it is worth.
Gamespot as a webiste does not solely report for the favour of the american gamer. it has a world wide responsibility as wide as the www that stands in front of its url. Truly shame
As a US company, with a US audience and US advertisers GameSpot targets the US reader. It would be foolish not to. Expecting Gamespot to cater to a European reader would be like expecting Edge to cater to a US reader of Famitsu to cater to any Western reader. Famitsu has a www site, but it certainly doesn't care to the worldwide reader. It caters to the Japan reader. -hl718
Fair enough, but unlike Japanese, English is a language that almost all people can read. For example even IGN has uk.ign.com now(witht he same american content) which is evidence as to the great connection between the american and european gaming cultures.
To be honest, like everyone else has already said, the SMS got absolutely hammered here in the states. Just like the TurboGrafix, unless you knew someone wealthy or very in the know, you never saw many of these systems. Hell I couldn't actually find a working SMS until I got out of college. Most of my friends still don't know these things even exist because the NES was just that dominant here in the states. I still have people ask me what I'm playing with when I've got the TurboExpress out at the kids soccer game. But I do still loathe Gamespot.....
gamespot ign and any site on ugo = Crappy shit crap reporting. Those people get paid and know nothing about anything.
Yeah take what Gamespot says with a grain of salt.Instead of just blowing the thing off enlighten people about it.Hell im still in search of my first SMS and I hardly know whats good for it.
Until i was actually in the gaming industry, i never reailzed that the SMS had a US release... I had always thought that it was europe and japan only. To this day, i've seen less than 10 SMS units in person...
Yeah, Id love to get my hands on one. An old friend of mine in Moscow had one, though now that I think about it, ti was probaly a fake one.... But yeah, Gamespot gets paid for good reviews.
If the email was phrased less aggressively I'd consider the guy to be resonable but (even though I dislike Gamespot immensly) I can say without overwhelming bias that that guy obviously knows jack. I personally expected him to talk about how 1337 his NES was it's just that bad an email, makes you want to just slap him. Also to do with our current discussion as a gaming website Regardless of location or real reason that kind of attitude is bull. You can't just ignore the Master System and say it totally sucked that's how histories get screwed.
The guy is a jackass, but I agree with him. The SMS was rubbish with each and every game I played. Before anyone jumps in to argue why its not, I am merely stating my opinion of the machine and the games I played on it. Not saying it should be hated, but saying I personally hate it. Oh, and for the record I don't really like the PS games. Just never played well to me.
