I've been wanting to create a gaming related blog for a long time, but i need help on deciding how to create it. Should i use a blog service like Blogger?, which is very user friendly, or should register a domain and start from scratch?.

I did option 2, sort of. I don't think many people read my stuff though. Hell, I haven't added anything forever anyways.

Thats why you should try writing for me ;) I know people are visiting, it may not be huge (yet), but I know people are reading and stopping by.

I could throw stuff on both or something. I kind of like messing with my own site and such when I have the time.

I dont mind if you link back to your own or whatever :) I still hope to make PtoP more open to users who want to spread their content. In the end, its good for both of us.

I'd say start from scratch, as you get much more control over look and feel, and just the same amount of exposure (i.e. none) as using a free service.

If you go for a domain that means you'll have to pay hosting too.

Anyway, I'm making a site thats about gaming blogs (among many other things) and you can participate if you want:nod:

The advantage of making a blog in a game-related site (mine or any other) is that since you're in a gaming enviroment theres a much higher chance of getting other users to read your stuff.

After all I doubt the hipsters in livejournal will care about which 90s platform is the best one:lol:

Domain and hosting is dirt cheap nowadays anyway though, you can register through Yahoo for $9 a year and get decent unlimited hosting for between $6 to $14 a month. There's really no reason to settle for blogspot or something unless you don't want to spend a lot of time setting up infrastructure.

As for the name, what aspect of gaming would your blog focus on?

You got to be careful with most hosting companies: they tell you "is allright, dont worry" but if by chance you end up in digg or some other news site (which makes your traffic go up like a rocket) then the company will shut your site down.

A good, and I mean reliable hosting goes for $20 and up.

About my blog, well that depends on what I write, hehe, but the site will let any user get an account and write their own.

I was going to suggest wordpress. I wonder why no one did.

As for advertising, putting the link on your sig would be the first thing to do.

Well you could get an adsense account, but it costs money.

Or spam some forums, but you'll get banned in no time.

About hosting, I know a few companies in the states, but it may be better if you get one thats located in chile, since having to solve problems over the phone with a guy that is 10000 miles away must be troublesome.

    Done, thx for the advice

For now I'll stick with wordpress and I'll buy a domain next week. Now I just have to find a proper name for my blog, because I don't think that Kame-House will be available (and would probably have legal problems anyway)

How to advertise? Well, post on various boards with a link in your sig is a good start. Trade links with other sites (like mine :) Keep your site updated, weekly if possible. Try to find something unique that will spark intrest.

    Good luck.

Nah dont worry about that, just dont post any copyrighted material.

The domain may be already taken though...

Anyway, I'm launching my site soon, so I'll contribute to your site if you promise to do the same with mine;-)
