I am gauging interest in printing corrected discs. It would cost $300 to replicate 300 of them (minimum) and I would shred the extras past the original 150 or so. Postage would be $3.00 each in the U.S. , $15.00 for people outside the U.S. We would need to crowdfund $300 to make the discs. Anyone getting disc would need to first post a picture of a sealed copy with their user name, or an open disc with their name in the picture. I don't expect all 150 people to see this, I expect 50 or so people which could raise the price per disc to $6.
I haven't participated in this project when it happened, but even though i still don't own a Dreamcast, i wouldn't mind helping this time around.
Same, but given the fact that I don't have a copy I wouldn't want to receive any priority whatsoever. Just a thought.
Count me in. that being said, with the GD-ROM replacement solutions (GDEMU / GDUSB) out there I think it's also a right time to set the untouched / GDI files free.
I'm down. I opened my copy not too long ago because the shrinkwrap was cut enough to nullify the point. I too would rather buy the original pressings than see them merely shredded.
I don't want to give out the older flawed discs. I'd rather press the replacements as they will actually work.
Even if you end up printing the new fixed version, don't destroy the old ones. I think they're part of the site / forums history, shredding them doesn't sound like a good idea for me. Yakumo seems to have lost his copy, i'm sure he would like one of those older discs. I wouldn't mind having one too, even if it was just to place it on a shelf. But the people who helped the original project should have the priority in this case.
I have to agree with Johnny on this ASSEMbler destroying those discs in this case would be the same as destroying a piece of the forums history as well as gaming history, why go through with that when you have people willing to give them a loving home they deserve? (that and I was one of those who never claimed my copy as my financial situation took a turn for the worst at the time and by the time I got everything under control again I had completely forgot all about it, so if you still have copies that are unclaimed and I'm offering to pay for it I should be given a chance to get at least 1 copy since I didn't claim mine back then) and I'm also interested in putting in for a few corrected discs.
You could keep them and give them away in contests or whatever. This way you don't feel bad selling something not very usable, but you still preserve them for history and posterity! BTW, I'm sorry that my selfboot had such poor sorting and performance, but I had to make it over VNC and I couldn't test it whatsoever; I used the GD-R sorting order.
