Hi everyone, this is regarding the modded replacement LCD screens that have been sold in kits. It replaces the original LCD which was not backlit. I have heard from a couple different people now that it's not available anymore because of a shortage or something like that? The guy I bought my first 2 from said that to me and also I went on ebay and the first auction mentions that these will be going away permanently? Is this for real? I sure had fun modding these and giving them to people... :( I can't find any news regarding this so I'm here posting this.

Yep seems the stock is gone. Doesn't seem like something they were producing recently, seemed like they found an old stash that ran dry.

Also as far as the glut in these lcds, these we're probably being ripped out of old SPs. But yeah that stash is now dried up.

But I also thought there were NEW LCDs being manufactured in China, in fact I know this is true because the new LCDs had the bad refresh RCG was notorious for using these. The screens ripped from old SPs do not have the bad refresh rate.

It is highly unlikely that they were being ripped from SPs. Many still had protective films on the screens.

The refresh rate was fine on the screens really, there were ways to fix that. Its possible that they were reject screens or something.

It's possible that they still have stock that was already modded, but a lot of sellers will just not remove listings they have no stock for.

Did my mod with a real deal AGS-101 screen... MUCH better quality than the China ones anyways. Try to find a cheap/beat up 101 locally if you can, well worth it!! The screen is encased so the SP shell can be gross/beat and you're still good.

Idk if they are even SHARP displays.
they could be different models but use the same LVDS signals.
Anyone got the part number for an ags 101 lcd??

I just bought one of these from ebay. Been wanting to do this for a while and was planning on buying one from kitsch-bent, but kept putting it off. Then one day, the page disappeared :/

The refresh rate isn't too bad, though there is a lot of ghosting when playing old black and white GB games. If I can get an AGS-101 cheap on ebay, I'll probably swap the screens over.

    Mind sharing how :)

The pot adjustment on the motherboard supposedly helps

Unless we're talking different pots, I'm pretty sure that only controlled brightness levels.

I thought the pot adjusted the contrast? Either way, I don't really want to mess with it, don't want to break anything.
