    Hello everyone!
I have an AGS-101 LCD screen that has some torn traces on the ribbon cable. Am I doomed or is there a reasonable way to fix this issue? It seems to come cleanly together when the ribbon remains still but it's obvious that those traces are not making proper contact anymore. Is there a somewhat easy solution to the problem? If this requires some serious solder skills, but is fixable, i'd be willing to send this off to someone to get fixed for a price. Just need some insight on how to fix this problem! AGS-101 screens are somewhat scarce at the moment so i'd hate to see it go to waste.

    Thanks!

nope it's too hard to repair being that it's a flex cable so soldering is out of the question (it will just crack)

You can get new displays from Aliexpress.com for about $40USD

Agh, is there anything that I can do with the screen itself? I have two of these AGS 101 LCD's laying around with damaged ribbons and really don't want to have to trash them.

    Thanks again!

It will be a pretty tough fix but it could be done in the right hands but your other option is to install the frontlight in a GBC.

Can't even do that though. It's a AGS-101 backlit model.

Hmm well I suppose i'll keep them stored away for the future but if anyone has any recommendations for what to do with them, feel free to let me know! I hate for them to go to waste.

Look on eBay for dead SP whose LCD is not cracked. You might be able to swap LCD to get yourself a working SP, and then sell the dead SP with ripped cable and let someone else deal with it.

Is that ribbon soldered onto some circuit board behind the LCD?

Thanks, yeah I keep my eye open for "Broken" AGS-101's regularly so i'll try and find something that'll work. Just wanted to find something to do with all of the broke screens that I get from time to time.

The ribbon does indeed seem to be soldered on to the back of the screen. Would there be a place to get a replacement ribbon?
Back of the LCD looks likes this:

If you don't mind prying the metal casing of the LCD you could see where the torn trace go to and hopefully solder 2 thin wires and you could solder the other ends to the ribbon connector pins where they would go and it should work.

I'm not sure if it will work, but I stole the light screen out of an AGS-001 the other day for a NGPC front-light mod so I have the actual LCD still. I'm not sure how easy it will be to replace, but if you can find out if it'll work, I can send you the screen for free as it's useless to me now

That's not the ribbon cable for the LCD, it's for the backlight screen. It lays on top of the LCD and can be removed, it's on there with small tabs on all sides of the housing then you will have to remove the adhesive using an exacto knife. Those 3 solder points, you need to heat them up one at a time, slide the blade under it and gently push up on it and repeat until the cable is lifted off. It's incredibly easy to break it if you aren't careful.

I have a cracked AGS-101 LCD with a good ribbon cable. If it's possible to transfer the ribbon cables I'd love to try. I've seen special iron tips on Console5 for heating them up to reflow connections but I don't know if they can be used to transfer ribbons and I know it will still be difficult even if it can. I don't have a hot air station but I do have a temperature controlled digital soldering/desoldering workstation.
