yer its a pain but I wanted to make the board smaller so the voltage reg ended up sitting up as I had free space above me in the z axis but not along the y axis. That one you bought is the one I have stuck in my test boards you should be fine with that one, if you find a better part please let me know.

yes it should work I personally have not bought these devices but unseen got it working fine the latest shuriken project bit file is 2.3 in his github

    https://github.com/ikorb/gcvideo/tree/master/HDL/gcvideo_dvi/bin

not finished yet ordered the smaller mini hdmi connector this morning

    http://uk.farnell.com/te-connectivity/2013978-2/receptacle-hdmi-mini-c-flange/dp/1877699

hopefully will get time next weekend to layout the board with the new connector should shave 5mm of the baord, dont sound like a lot but it means you will be able to remove the gc back panel without removing the motherboard if you have it soldered in place which will be nice.

Ah this makes sense with the volt reg. I see what you did now. That actually makes me feel better about it lol.

I'll post any success stories for the xc3s200a when I get there.

    Thanks for the reply!

I'm trying to use the CY7C68013A board as well to flash my shuriken video (I hate Cypress stuff) and I'm having some minor issues with this step. I've downloaded the .hex file onto it so that it shows up as a COM port under Device Manager, but obviously whenever I turn it off it returns to being an FX2LP under USB controllers.

Is it OK to try and flash the M25P40 once I've downloaded the .hex file or do I have to install the .iic file and how do I go about doing so in the Cypress EZ-USB interface? The AN45197 note has been moved and what has replaced it is pretty unclear.

I am not sure if its required to install the iic file, I dont think it is but I did download it as I dont really have anything else to use the board for, so for me the boards basically always a USB serial port.

On my site I have uploaded AN45197.zip that contains the app note and the cypress hex2bin.exe (aka hex to iic) program. You should be able to follow the app note you can use the iic file from the AN58764_with_spi.zip ie you dont need to run hex2bin.exe you can skip that step in the app note.

I think I have everything correctly connected, but when I try to flash the M25P40, I get and error in cmd that spi_flash.bin cannot be opened :(. My Cypress board is showing as a USB SPI device on COM5 and my shuriken is correctly wired to the board and the Gamecube powered on. I used the gcvideo-dvi-shuriken-v3-2.3.bit file to create the .bin file in Xilinx shell.

Think I've managed to flash it now... at least it looks like that on the PC side of things. I realised I just hadn't properly specified the .bin path and was trying to flash the wrong .bin for my FPGA anyway.

However, the reason I was attempting to flash it was because I didn't have any audio over HDMI and assumed the board had just been flashed with an early shuriken release (I bought it pre-built from Taobao), but I still don't have any audio :(. I'm going to assume at this point that the issue may lie with my soldering to the Digital AV output somewhere and start poking around with a multimeter, unless there are any other suggestions?

I think the orginal problem was that you was not in the same directory as the exe ie you was not in c:\gcflash the programs not that smart I think it was trying to read the bin file from the calling directory ie c:\users\Jared (I think need to check tonight).

Yeah, I'd just assumed that it would be OK to just put the bin name as I had it in the same folder as new_fpga_flash.exe

Actually never tested it like that always cd into the directory of the exe, so the bin / exe / user are all in the same directory.

All I can suggest is to Uninstall the cypress drivers power everything down pc and board and start again hopefully the cypress board installs correctly again. Then cd into the gcflash directory and try again hopefully it will work.

Oh I see you got it to flash correctly cool, check the connections around audio clock and audio data lines.

I managed to find a bridge between pins 21 and 22 of the Digital AV connector, so was pretty certain that would have been the cause of the audio issues, but it's still not running properly. I went over pins 39,40 and 41 on the FPGA as well, but still no luck...

is the fpga on that board a fpga a x50a or a x200 ie is it the smaller fpga or the bigger on ? Check the resistance between the av connector and fpga pins maybe one is open circuit?

It's the XC3S50A. I've tested for continuity between the AV connector and the FPGA, as the audio lines feed right into it, but I couldn't find any problems.

Oh ok download the gc dv update 0.5 zip from my website and flash the bin in that zip file. That supports audio for the 50a fpga.

Dam that should give you audio if the pcb is ok :-(

Does the analogue audio work ie using the other cable ?

Analogue audio works when I have composite video connected as well. Don't know if that's normal or a "feature" of my TV...

Last time I had a short on the audio lines it completely killed my cubes I wonder if that short you found damaged the digital audio output.

Possibly, although I think the bridge might have occurred while I was messing about with it today. I have another Gamecube motherboard I'll try installing the shuriken board on tomorrow morning and see if it works on there.

Urgh... got up early to connect it to another board. Should've checked it before I started...
