The point of these forums is not to pick at people, find fault, degrade, or insult.
The goal is to share information and provide a friendly place for people who like said information to interact.

Users wonder why the forum has gotten slow, then turn around and roast new users like it's sport.

To a much much much minor degree, moderators need to be more warm and less harsh. I know after a while it gets boring and thankless, but please be less curt.

You never see the more established members do any of this. Why? Because they know better, and are more balanced, and know not everyone has the knowledge of abraham at their fingertips. Not everyone is born with the knowledge of pc engine assembly or how to extract files from xbox discs.

So in general, be more respectful. RESPECTFUL of others. It's one of the oldest guidelines this forum has had in it's many forms since the old ezboards in the 1990's.

    1. Show respect and respect will be given.
    2. Hostility and tearing apart people is not allowed.

    -ASSEMbler.

    well said mate! :D

I'd hate to see this place becoming one of many, shall we say, less desirable forums/boards...

I'll just leave it to the experts when it comes to riff raff, and welcome new members who didn't get it right the first time, but mean well.

    Hello

I agree with you ASSEMbler, as a daily visitor and sometimes poster on this forum, nothing is more unpleasant than reading articles where people flame each other, makes you wonder if you're in the right place.

We all share a passion for the same things so let's be cool...We all have here a great opportunity to share and learn on the dark side of videogames thanks to ASSEMbler and his forum let's not ruin it.

Thought I'd love to know PC Engine assembly myself ;-)

I agree and I openly admit i've recently been a little hard on a new member but my problem stems from anoyance of people who do not read the topic, reply post or anything and then assert a very ignorant statement.

So please people for the love of god. READ the topic, don't just read the topic title and make a ignorant reply.

And run a search! I think thats the biggest problem. Lots of topics have come and gone, and hold a great load of information not found elsewhere. Read it! Be enlightened. And enjoy you stay at Happy go-ASSEMbler ranch :D

i'm more that agreeing to everything and i proposed to make faqs out of some topics for avoiding people asking and asking the same things over and over (probably they would do it nevertheless,, but at least they can't brag saying that the search finds too much things or 1000km long topics :p ).

by the way, at least for me there was never any harshness from anyone even when i was just registered,, and as i said lots of times, this community is the best i've been into so far.

Yeah, that's a fair enough point. It does piss me off that it's got to the point where I was actually thanked for troubling to read the rules though; it should really be a given...

Still, I'll stop slapping people down so hard ;-)

I don´t think I am sorry always anyway. But I won´t flame new members, because they are asking a normal question, and I could point a finger at a mod who sometimes is a bit harsh, But I won´t(and why should I ?) because heck I am in the same boat as all the other people here. And second of all this place has to be a good place, and not a turdplace with turdtalk.

And I hope people understand that I want to help when I can, instead of being a brat :)

  13. I completely agree with ASSEMbler on the policy of not picking at others, starting flamewars, etc. etc. I'm guilty of contributing sometimes, as is most everybody else, and I apologize.

    However.

I don't think that this is entirely the cause of declining activity on the board. Nor do I agree with the statement that distinguished members are exempt from the sort of conduct lambasted by this thread, because many of them are not. I'm not sure there's one person considered a distinguished member who could honestly claim to not have been overly smarmy or sarcastic the whole time they were here. Just an observation.

But really - is it sour attitudes that are truely the cause of slow times at assembler?

Browse the 'General Discussion' page. How many topics are there complaining about the 360, complaining about the PSP, speculating about the latest 'news' on the Revolution? How many times do we hear members pipe up with their needless system bashing and overstated biases? "Gamecube is for kiddies," "XBox Suxxorz 'cuz it's from M$," "The PS2 and Sony suck because mine broke a year ago," "All English localizations are shit because they're not Japanese anymore," etc. etc. ad nauseam.

I thought this was the home of the obscure. Where's our obscure? It's been relegated to its own forum, back in the corner. Our focus on the rare and the obscure has been dwindling, and the message board has obviously changed to reflect that. Remember EZboards, anyone? It was one giant forum. The marketplace (an obviously needed addition) came later, but now look at where we are. Now, we have 15 different forums, each with their own specialized topic, with less than half that can really be considered 'rare and obscure'. When the original purpose of ASSEMbler becomes just a footnote in light of "General Discussion" or "Off-Topic Discussion", how different have we become from the boards on GameFAQs or IGN?

Has anyone looked in the Memberlist lately? Is it surprising that we have nearly 7 pages of 0-post members?

Again, I wholeheartedly agree that a bit of courtesy is in order, and again apologize for the times where I may have been unnessicarily sarcastic or rude - heaven knows I hate that as much as anyone else.

But you can't really pin the general decline on sour attitudes among members. It's a lot bigger than that.

Lately, I've been noticing a big decline in those types of fanboyish topics. Grant it, there is an influx in 360 topics but that is because its a new system, so there are bound to be topics about crashing. Now within those topics I really haven't detected a lot of fanboyism.

Anyway, I think all of this is really stems from this place not having the new/revitalized museum that Assember (depending on his health) is slaving over. I wish I can help him bring it up, but I don't have the technical skills to do so and he doesn't trust a lot of people, and I don't blame him for that.

So, while we wait for that the rest of us will just be diddle-daddling around the message board.

To be honest, if you look around the internet, a lot of the forums haven't had a lot of posts lately. I just think that people don't have as much time to spend online this time of year. And i still think we have more posts now then we ever did on the ez-boards. I think the decline has only been in the last month.

So what can we do to make this place more lively?

I'd love to help with the museum, if assembler needs it.

I just think news is slow. The Next Gen hype machine is in full swing, and the good stuff is all being hidden away

Well put. I've tried to refrain from insulting new members when an old and tired question is asked (usually without putting forth an effort to make a readable sentence), and I hope I've insulted no one.

However, I don't think it's our (admittedly sour) attitude that has caused a decline in the forums. Greatsaintlouis covered this pretty well, so I'll spare you more of the same.

I've seen a few hypocrites already, so please try and stick by your new "anti-elite" slogan.

Maybe it's just the forums I visit, but I find that quite true!

I want to say this. If I've offended anyone on this board, I apologize for my acts.

i noticed it too. Dont compare fanboyism with favoritism, though. Exemple, everyone know im all hyped up about the revolution and jump like a kid everywhere, but most of them aslo know that i own all concurents console, and love them all.

sometimes, i just think that we have no big topics lefts though. :( its like if we digged and talked about all the big subjects at times. 64dd, M2, Snes cd, sonic xtreme, and many more...

Maybe its just a bad pass too.

As for new members, i think its really stupid to attack them and all. They need to be warmly welcome, because they help us to get fresh air. And i do have noticed some elitism around in the last couple of weeks.

Besides the lack of updates, which are entirely my fault, and due to my life
going-ons I have to almost steal time to do anything online.

Do I start denying user rights to people because they are stupid/contribute nothing?

Do I go gestapo and make the posting requirements so strict, that only
    a few topics get posted?

People asked for an off topic, then they asked for a general area.
Me, I'm against either. I don't do general gaming, period. This place isn't even related by a mile to normal gaming.

Most established readers don't bother with the off topic area at all, or general to an extent.

Personally, I don't want the board to become like most of the more knowledge intensive sites. Closed , small, and rarely any new news.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone who doesn't even know what a test ps2 is doing here, or why people who own none of the items we talk about come here.

But then again, a lot of things in life are unexplained.
