I've been thinking of posting such a thread for quite some time now. I was wondering whether people would be interested in some games that I mod/hack to uncover deleted content in the beta versions etc. This thread will primarily consist of cheat codes to access hidden content, executable patches, extraction tools and model viewing scripts. I may also be able to help extract other beta games so that users can explore the files further to find more interesting stuff if requested. I also encourage other users to ask questions and contribute to creating tools to extract content out of the beta versions of games if they can. People may also request tools if they want and I will probably make them when I get chance to. Most beta versions of games include a lot of stuff which is unfinished, unused, why not take the opportunity to find this stuff? Lets kick things off: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game: Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos. Platform: PSX. Build: v06.09.1996. Left Overs: An unused map image which can be viewed in "tile molester". Various unused, unfinished unseen test levels can be accessed. There are a total of 218 levels! Gameshark Cheats: Level Modifier (Replace the ?? with level ID whilst at island screen): 80056CA8 00?? Extraction tool(s): Just put crocfile.dir and crocfile.dat in the same directory as the unpacker and double click the .bat! Download -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game: Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos. Platform: PSX. Build: v19.01.1997. Left Overs: There are a total of 267 levels, I'm sure there are some test levels, I have to check this out when i get chance! Extraction tool(s): Just put crocfile.dir and crocfile.1 in the same directory as the unpacker and double click the .bat! Download -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More to come whenever, enjoy!
Just noticing this, will try out! For the 1996 demo, don't forget that besides the entrance to a level, a lot of them also have separate screens/rooms that belong to it but can't be progressed to normally due to incomplete level design. You can access these with the code 80056C0C 00??. I made a rudimentary list showing where each number takes you, probably not complete. Attaching it as the forum doesn't seem to save the formatting. Any "main" number you see fills in the ??'s in 80056CA8 00??, while the "child" number beneath take fill in 80056C0C 00??. Hope it makes sense. Were you making a model viewer somehow, btw? I bet there's tons of unused stuff not normally seen. I'm not good with many tech terms so I don't know what you meant when you said you were planning to parse the models Edit: Here's a pic of the early map screen for anyone curious.
Yes, I understand what you mean by the Gameshark code. There's tons of left over levels like test ones for bosses etc. I don't know if they can be accessed through the gameshark code but they should be. If it's not hard coded then there are other ways to get into them. I was originally supposed to unlock the map screen and allow accessing the other Islands but it's useless since a lot of the rooms are not connected anyway and this method would be more efficient. And yeah, I'm going to get round to parsing the models so that they can be viewed, although I'm currently not sure where the map meshes are stored, I hope to stumble on them in the future! Luckily, yesterday i managed to "parse" or "read" the Crocfile.dat from the demo. This one has baffled me for quite some time, they actually use the same method used in the latest Tomb Raider game so coincidentally, I recognised it and fixed the extraction for that game. Thanks.
Head over to gamehacking.org as we have hacked many debug codes and even undocumented button command codes. I think you might get more attention there.
Any further progress with Croc? Also, if you're taking requests I'm actually somewhat curious about one game, Ganbare Goemon Uchuu Kaizoku Akogingu on PSX. I found some unused sprites in it before loaded into VRAM, I'm thinking there could be more stuff hidden on the disc. If you ever are up to something new
