When were the jasper revisions stopped being made? I have a guy claiming that he has a Jasper with the manufacture date being 2011. That doesn't make sense, bacause the slim was released in 2010. The newest jasper I have seen is from 2010. Share your knowledge on this matter.
It could be a very rare case. I mean Jaspers are very reliable, but I guess some of them could have had defects.
Could have easily been an early Jasper with a defective DVD drive that was sent in. My falcon, jasper and trinity all were sent back at one point for dvd drive issues, never RROD/E issues.
So I bought the console for 20 EUR. It's a fully working small block Jasper elite with a low dashboard ( It's compatible with RGH1). The only problem is that it doesn't come with a DVD drive and a controller, otherwise it's complete. I have to wait for the console in the mail, to have a closer look at it. Can I put a really old Samsung drive in there from a Xenon. I know that I would have to change the DVD key, but is there anything else I should look out for ?
Yeah, you should check what the original drive was by looking at the OSIG in the keyvault (you will need to RGH it for this) - if it was one of the models that supported AP2.5 (Lite-on, Benq or Hitachi v78/v79) then the Samsung is going to cause you problems with AP2.5 games, since the dashboard will attempt to send AP2.5 challenges to the drive (based on the OSIG), and the Samsung simply can't handle them. As a result, all AP2.5 games (even original ones) will fail to boot.
Yes - obviously the key needs to match, but getting that is trivial if the console is already hacked. I was talking about using retail firmware on it - and in that case you can't swap in a drive that doesn't support AP2.5 unless it was originally shipped with a drive that also didn't support it (which, in the case of a Jasper, is extremely unlikely). So, if you had a machine that was made with a GDR-3120L 59DJ in it (which I have seen in a Jasper, although admittedly a MS refurbished one) then it doesn't get the AP2.5 challenges, even if the drive was later replaced with one that was AP2.5 capable. In the same way, if the console was made with say the Liteon DG-16S2S (a very common drive in Jaspers) then even if you replaced it with something like an MS28 Samsung it would still try and send the AP2.5 challenges to the drive (which would obviously fail, since the drive doesn't support it). If you are using a hacked dash, all this is irrelevant, since it doesn't send the challenges anyway.
