That link goes to a structural engineering firm... EDIT: your text is right, the link is wrong... it's http://www.onmac.net
Ive been trying to install it for a bit, having some trouble with my XP cds that ive obtained heh, seems to be going for now though
Meh Meh, the Mac hardware is still overpriced for what it is. OS X is nice but it's not worth paying so much more to get the same hardware as a Windows machine. Besides, it's nice to have something that you actually built yourself or is customized. This of course generally applies to desktops. The new laptops are pretty nice but I can still get something faster for the same price... On another note: Is Linux running on the new Macs yet? I haven't heard jack either way but I assume the EFI that replaces the standard BIOS would be an issue for both Windows and Linux.
I kinda agree with you on the desktop side of things, but as laptops go, i really like the apple laptops and for pc... well, the only thing that i remotly like are the thinkpads which are not "in your face" like the dell/alienware laptops and they arent as thick and big as the other brands "compact/toshiba/hp" i like them because they are simplistic, but yet nice looking and thin/small. As prices go for laptops, seeing what you get with a 2.0ghz core duo mac pro, you dont really get riped off for what you get. and about linux, it will probably boot soon, because this hack has a moddified efi file that aparently makes windows thinks is a bios, so it should be easy to moddify.
Student discount + one shot student ADC hardware discount = $300-400 savings + 1 year of free OS updates. And Linux is working just fine using elilo (EFI compatible lilo).
Heh, what did I tell you on MSN Eva? Heh, good to see you starting to lean to the light side! Once You Pop You Can't stop!
It's a nifty idea, to be sure, especially if one could set up some sort of dual-boot system between WinXp and OSX. However, if WinXP is going to be the only use for the laptop, it seems a little ridiculous to pay close to twice the price of a standard Windows laptop.
General question to all Mac users, especially those who own apple laptops of any kind. What is their quality? Do they last long? Do you feel you've gotten your moneys worth? Does the original battery work like it used to when you first got it? This mainly applies to the hardware, not software. I might get one if their quality is why you pay extra.
I've only had mine 6 months (12" iBook G4), but the battery is as good as it was the day I got it. The quality is great, and definately comparable to laptops of a similar price. Graphics Card in mine is a bit of a weed in that it only has 32mb of RAM, although it is a radeon 9550. The card in the Mac Book Pros is considerably better though, and you shouldn't have any problems there. The size is great, at 12" I can carry it everywhere, and its nice and lightweight too. Everything is great, no regrets. OS X is just a bloody nice added bonus. Also Remember that Apple hardware generally retains their value much, much better than wintel boxes, which is useful. Battery life for me is around 3 hrs real world use - I can push that to 4hrs if need be by turning things down.
Thx. I was just thinking of sticking to my PC for gaming and just use the MAC for AutoCAD. I just need to double check if MACs are acceptable at the school. It depends on the software they use.
Really, so long as you aren't a heavy gamer, theres no reason to keep a PC for gaming with this news...I'd keep one around for a while, but I expect you'll not bother with it after a while....mine sits in a corner collecting dust..
I am absolutely loving my Macbook Pro. its a real quality piece of hardware, is awesome, compact, and its extremely quick, even for rosetta apps. Cant wait for a native Photoshop though PS. It already is dual boot for OSX and XP
Am i the only one to think that you buy a mac, wich is overpriced hardware, for OSX? If you buy over priced hardware, to put bad os in it, then it's not worth it. BTW, i know ill get bashed, but i mean bad for all the shit and instability you can get, not compatibility. For Compatibility, its the best of every os, of course.
Perfectly reasonable to think that. For me, I am getting it for three reasons: It is one of the lightest 15.4" widscreen laptops available. The aluminum case is very sturdy. The keyboard is backlit.
