I will see your Beck's and raise you a pint of Grolsh - definately the best beer from a can. As a big vodka fan i would defend the idea that you pay for how your going to feel the following day. Cheap vodka = horrible hangover, decent (branded) vodka = negligable hangover (dependant on quantity consumed + chosen mixer). It has been my experience tho that Polish vodka (even the nasty looking shit with twigs in the bottle) seems to break this rule as in no matter how cheap it is i always feel alright the following day. For a truely horrible hangover try schliovitza (clearly not the correct spelling), a eastern european homebrew spirit made with potatoes (i think) of varying alcohol content. Have drank it with Czech and Slovak freiends and it has never paid off the following day. And finally, my nomination for the worst hangover in the word... flaming samuca's with coffee beans. The drink of the happy man. Good things always happen when sambuca is set on fire and knocked back in high quantities... bad things tend to be realised the morning after.
concept: Slivovitz is the name of the alcohol you are talking about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slivovitz
for beer its dark beers mostly. except i never liked Guinness. give me a pint of Naramata Nut brown Ale or Anarchist Ale anyday. although if i'm just looking to get smashed with absolute disregard to health/safety its a cheap 40-ounce all the way for hard liquors its all about the whiskey. Canadian Club and Jameson 12 year being favorites my worst hangover pick would have to be Smirnoff. One new years when i was 16 and i never drank it again. haven't had a hangover since. i've woken up drunk still. but not hungover
I recall many a night spent in the College Arms pre-club with a jug or two of smirnoff and redbull. That is dangerous stuff when mixed together in large jug sized quantities. The College Arms is a dodgy place these days, I hear.
worst hangover..hmm I was in Tehran, circa 2001 and since alcohol there is illegal kids resort/ed to buying pharmaceutical alcohol from the drug store then mixing it on the spot with whatever. Pure alcohol tastes like shit and mixing it doesn't really help the taste, waters it down a bit though. I remember being drunk out of my mind. And the other time.. in 2003 me and my best mate got a bottle of Moldavian homebrewed Cognac and drank the whole 2L bottle in a single night.. that thing was above 50% and the following day we had the worst hang over ever. That said, we did start and complete the Curse of Monkey Island that very same hung-over day. Following the above harsh lessons I now avoid anything with the taste/smell/effect of alcohol. It's just bad for my body and I feel it. I don't care if it's legal, it's still a very mediocre manner of mental escape and the toll is too heavy to pay every time, especially if you live an every-day-busy-life. PS: of course at very rare occasions I might get pissed when I m with mates or in a club or something, but that's a decisive factor for not "going out" - I'm not into alcohol.
What is it with hangovers and video games ? heck I once had a friend who always played Warlords 2 Deluxe, when he was hung over .
