I have about 5 or 6Gb worth of music on my HDD in standard MP3 format and i want to make them smaller in size since i am not able to get much more than 160 tracks on my 1Gb shuffle probably becuase the sizes the MP3'S are.

I know of a few programs but is there one that can be set to do a whole albums worth of mp3's in one single go rather than me having to convert each track individually??

Thanks for any help i get.

Convert it into MP4/M4A, which offers a much better compression for the same quality (although you'll inevitably lose a tiny bit through converting between two formats).

If you're using iTunes, then you can do that quite easily AFIAK.

I currently don't use anything for syncing my ipod up ATM but will be using the sync function that is in media monkey.

I really need find a way of getting my music converted into my chosen format (easiest part) whilst getting rid of the original mp3 files once converted as i am running low on space on the partiton with my music/files on it.

Arrrgh 170 odd tracks is my limit on my Ipod after i did a conversion of my mp3's to the lowest quality possible that had no visible loss in how the tracks sounded.

    Not sure what to do.

Thats just how it is unfortunately, it only goes so small. The iPod Shuffle isnt a large storage device so

I guess i can't really complain since it was a gift from my sister, but it does state 240 tracks for the 1GB and before i could see why i wasn't getting that much on having MP3's at differing quality and sizes.

    Shrinking mp3s

Hi. If you have nero burning rom you can re-encode your mp3s to a lower rate and reduce the size quite a lot.. although if you go too far it starts to sound crappy.. Open Nero Burning Rom, and from the top menu click on extras, then click on encode files. from there you can load your music and re-encode to lots of different formats and rates:icon_bigg
    Hope this helps.

I believe that Apple states 240 tracks if they are encoded in AAC using iTunes.

I have a Shuffle also and I currently have about 150ish songs on it. All of my music is in FLAC so I have to use Media Monkey to transcode them all to 128kbps MP3. It works pretty quick and easy.

I think for an MP3 to sound great it must be at least 192kbps at 44mhz I normally use VBR for MP3 hough. Most songs come out at 5MB in size but still worth it.

I have my music encoded all diffrently from not sticking to keep them all the same for years although i believe none are lower than 130kbps with VBR so i'll try and keep them all not much lower than that.

I got DB Poweramp to try after seeing that it has a batch converter and it took over an hour and a half to convert 5/6 gigs of music overwriting the old ones and its got the size down to just under 3 gigs

    Thanks for your help.
