There are cartridges with unlicenced NES / Famicom games and they use a NES-on-a-Chip, so it qualifies as a famiclone. I don't know why, but the actual NOAC is built into the cartridges and not into the console. If anyone is interested, I opened mine and posted some pictures here
That's damn awesome. I ordered the One Station with all carts earlier today, and I'm amazed that they put the NOAC into the carts themselves. But now I understand how the thing can play 8/16-bit games (plus camera, radio, etc whenever those come out) on one system. It also goes to show how cheap Famiclones can sell for nowadays. A complete NES system plus games for about $8! (Price of the cartridge.) If any hackers want to, they can probably wire power, AV out, and controllers directly to the cartridge! I wonder what the 16-bit games are running off? Wouldn't it be ironic if it were A'Can hardware. ;-D
Be careful about ordering the One Station from success.hk. I just got an e-mail from them about my order, saying the two 35-in-1 (Famicom) cartridges were out of stock, even though they were in stock during the ordering phase, and I already paid for the full order. I smell a bait-and-switch attempt here. Either that, or they got spooked about shipping Famicom multicarts. Anyway, I'm not happy. I ordered the One Station primarily for having a tiny portable version of Recca. >:-(
Thanks for the headsup ccovell. I am actually most interested in the 35-in-1 cartridges, this means that its gonna have to be eBay now. Man that One Station looks nice! I love it when Famiclones/lookalike products look almost better than the real deal! (I have an MP3 player from China that looks exactly like an iPod Nano).
This thing fascinated me once I saw it. So I had to do some digging. Ironically a simple google of "glk book" came up with auctions of the same item from Argentina. I won't post the links since the google search still works, but I may be able to get one of these. The auctions say they include the power supply, but who knows.
Oh, I need to get one of those... definitely. I hope they bring them to the black market one day. It looks insanely awesome.
