I have six tapes of 32X and N64 beta play testing from acclaim.
The titles read Mortal Kombat, Turok, a few others I am not sure
about. I would also like to convert the H-Ten bomberman footage to digital.

I don't have the equipment to do this, and there are far more affordable experts for this at
digitalfaq.com. TheI estimate costs to be $20 per tape, total of $120 to convert the six tapes to properly timed and converted digital video.

If you are interested in contributing, please use the donation button on the main page, and include the mesage "vhs conversion project" in the message field. All donors will get download access to the entire footage Vs the edited and reduced footage we will be releasing on youtube.

Anyone who sponsors an entire tape will get a small gift by mail.

Do you know if the footage of bomberman is new or is it footage that has been previously released?
EDIT: well I just realized you were the one to release the other footage of it, came out so long ago I completely forgot.

They're horrible. You need a nice SVHS machine with TBC, and quite probably an external TBC, then a decent capture device.

Right, you need Time correction, and a capture device designed for analog.

Maybe vhs to dvd recorder was the wrong name? Its a vhs player that is also a dvd player and you can put the tape in one side and a blank dvd in the other side. From there the unit will play the tape and save it then burn it to the dvd. Its actually really simple and I have used it a lot.

But that sort of thing isn't the same as a professional transfer.

Absolutely. I do professional transfers and my gear cost about £10,000 ($15,000) back in the day. Even now, you'd pay at least $200 for a TBC and probably $200-400 for a decent SVHS machine. I guess you could get away with an old Hauppauge PVR for around $100-150 as a capture device. Then you need a reasonable computer and the right software for editing video.

    You need TBC:

Now, some of the DVD recorders had a basic TBC built in, but they're not great. And I don't recall the two-in-one units having them, but it's possible.

As a service engineer, I can tell you that two-in-one units are always bad. It's a compromise on quality for cheapness / space saving. I guess they do the job for transferring your old, crappy VHS camcorder home movies to DVD, but it's not a professional transfer. And the mechs aren't up to much - I wouldn't put a valuable cassette in one, personally.

Idk I just thought I would offer to help. I personally have used mine a number of times with no quality loss. I used it for my dailies tape for the 21 Jump Street 1987 Christmas special.

As I said on Twitter, I've got one of the DigitalFAQ-suggested JVC S-VHS decks with the internal TBC and a nice Micomsoft internal capture card. I set myself up just for encoding video game-related stuff based on suggestions from DigitalFAQ, and while I'm plenty busy already, I'll take these on if you can't raise the money.

We've already raised some of the money. If you can do it, it will free up those funds to pay for the upcoming month's bill.

You know, there are different ways of saying something. Like jakeeeenator said, he was just offering some help. The same thing bugged me when I was reading the A Bunch of Saturn Dev Software thread. I don't think anyone questions your knowledge, but you might to spread in a more friendly way.

    Just my $0.02..

OT: Nice to see the goal has been met. Didn't see the fundraiser untill now..

Ok so the rate is $15 an hour, so I can get four of the 15 minute promos done, all the beta footage
is a bit scary as they may be 6 hour tapes. I guess I will find out once they get the tapes.

    Still waiting on second reply.

Unlikely that anyone would use LP. 4 of those unlabelled tapes are 2 hour tapes.

Acclaim used special vcrs, I got them all at the sale, about 50 vcr units. They had some special security type vcrs that did
    very long video.

Just wondering why it's taking the company so long to reply.

Those were probably for CCTV. Nobody uses them for broadcast / promo, it's terrible quality.
