Goldeneye X, the fan made project to bring Goldeneye to the Perfect Dark engine (and so add the Perfect Dark specific engine enhancements to Goldeneye, such as bots in multiplayer, weather in single player, etc) has now reached version 5b. So far it is multiplayer only (though you can use the (very good) bots), and if you don't like Goldeneye's multiplayer then you might as well stop reading now, as you won't like this. For lovers of Goldeneye's multiplayer modes, though, this is really good - though it's true that the improvements iin this version of the patch over version 5a mostly aren't too obvious, as this version concentrates more on 'under the hood' improvements to the weapon authenticity (to make them more like Goldeneye's)and bugfixes. However, there are now two more weapons, and one more multiplayer level, to play with. The authors of Goldeneye say that the work on the multiplayer is almost complete, there will probably be one more release to fix up any multiplayer problems and add any new features they think necessary, and then they'll move on to the single player mode, now that the weapons and character models are all done. The levels you can play on in multiplayer are; Temple Complex Caves Library Basement Stack Facility Frigate Bunker Archives Train Caverns Cradle (this level is new) Egyptian Citadel Labyrinth (actually from The World is Not Enough, not Goldeneye) The weapons available are; Throwing / Hunting Knife PP7 Special Issue PP7 (silenced) DD44 Dostovei Klobb KF7 Soviet ZMG (9mm) D5K Deutsche D5K (silenced) Phantom AR33 Assault Rifle RC-P90 Shotgun Automatic Shotgun Sniper Rifle Cougar Magnum Golden Gun Silver PP7 Gold PP7 Moonraker Laser Grenade Launcher Rocket Launcher Seeker (like Perfect Dark's Slayer) Hand Grenade Timed Mine Proximity Mine Remote Mine Drone Gun (like Perfect Dark's Laptop Gun in turret mode) and the character's you can play as in multiplayer are; Bond (Tuxedo) Bond (Formal) Bond (Stealth) Bond (Arctic) Bond (Jungle) Natalya (Russia) Natalya (Cuba) Trevelyan (006) Trevelyan (Janus) Xenia Ourumov Boris Valentin Mishkin May Day Jaws Oddjob Baron Samedi Russian Soldier Russian Infantry Russian Commandant Male Scientist Female Scientist Janus Marine Naval Officer Helicopter Pilot St. Petersburg Guard Female Civilian (Jeans) Female Civilian (Skirt) Male Civilian (Vest) Male Civilian (Plaid) Male Civilian (Red) Male Civilian (Blue) Male Civilian (Grey) Siberian Guard (Brown) Siberian Guard (Black) Arctic Commando Siberian Special Forces Jungle Commando Janus Special Forces Male Moonraker Elite Female Moonraker Elite Rosika Female Special Operative Male Special Operative Elton Assault Trooper Baron Samedi (Death) Bond (Classic) [Connery] Bond (Classic) [Moore] Bond (Classic) [Lazenby] Bond (Classic) [Dalton] Version 5b can be download from http://www.goldeneyevault.com/viewfile.php?id=202 in the form of a patch, which is easy to apply (if you need helpthen see the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xssgPEuuZIM , which is for an earlier version of the Goldeneye X patch, but the method for applying the old patch is the same as for applying the new patch). Have fun!
Giving it a shot now. Working on the Everdrive without issue Edit: A lot of fun. Adds a ton of new life into the game.
Yeah this mod is great - glad to see they added "Cradle" as one of the MP maps; it was always one of my favorites!
This is the first I have hard of this project. Unfortunately, I do not own an everdrive to play it on, but I wish I did.
I patched it earlier today! Maybe they'll finally fix the graphics in the headquarters (Carrington Institute) for Everdrive once they start working on the story... Idk if they look the same way on a emu. I'm glad to know they are still working on it. I try to visit the Goldeneyevault and Zelda ura project sites weekly.. I wish there was more going on for the everdrive 64.. like enabled use for texture packs and stuff but I guess that stuff's not possible.
Here brainpann http://www.goldeneyevault.com/ Also I might as well say this before someone try's to bash me for it. I'm pretty happy with my everdrive 64. My only real complaint isn't to blame on Krikzz. I just want more people to make their hacks compatible with real 64 hardware. I'm sure the n64 wouldn't be able to handle Hi def texture packs. I have yet to find a decent list of hacks that are compatible either, what I have found was through tons of googling. It's all pretty underground.
I bought an Everdrive just to play this mod, and it's well worth it (Perfect Dark and Goldeneye are my two favourite ever games), and being able to play all N64 commercial games on it is great too (on the PAL version you can also play all NTSC and JAP games! I don't know if the vice versa is true), and you can play most N64 game mods too. I love using PC emulators for a lot of other machines, such as SNES/Megadrive/MAME/ZX Spectrum/etc, as the emulation is close enough to perfect as makes no difference, but I am *very* disappointed with N64 emulation, it's still glitchy and has compatability problems, and even if you do get a given game working perfectly you often have to mess about with the plugins -as others have said, Gamecube and Wii emulation is farer along than N64 emulation (strangely), and work on N64 emulators seems to be almost dead* * There is still work progressing (as far as I know) on the MESS side of N64 emulation, and that is aiming for 100% cycle accurate perfection, but it's not very advanced at the moment, and is chronically slow - it will need a monster PC when it's done (though by then PCs will probably be much more powerful). For more detaile, see; http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=33874 They will alter the Carrington Institute, I think they've said it will become MI6 headquarters. The reason the graphics there are so strange is that they've altered the textures where needed for the current work, and haven't yet started work on the single player/Carrington Institute (or at least not in the release versions of the mod), and at the moment the shared textures in the single player/Carrington Institute haven't been corrected for their single player/Carrington Institute display. Texture pack usage won't be possible, as of course an N64 with an Everdrive is still an N64, and the N64 isn't powerful enough to run a game with the higher texture quality of the texture packs, so they are emulator only. I suppose lower quality texture packs could replace the ingame textures, but that would depend on each seperate game. What N64 game hacks do you know of? All I know of are on http://www.goldeneyevault.com/ http://www.shootersforever.com/forums_message_boards/index.php (mostly also on the Goldeneye Vault, since this is the forum for that site) http://www.romhacking.net/ http://uraproject.the-gcn.com/faq.php (as mentioned by Heavy1390). I especially recommend the patch at; http://www.shootersforever.com/forums_message_boards/viewtopic.php?t=5996&highlight= which adds to the normal Perfect Dark the following two features; - Humans and sims can use the Goldeneye weapons in multiplayer - The sims can now use mines Being able to use the GE weapons in PD's multiplayer is great, but the sims-use-mines mod isn't too good, as the sims aren't exactly overly intelligent when judging where to throw mines, but it's fun sometimes. Both of these abilities are in Goldeneye X already, of course.
You pretty much covered everything I found that works on the 64 itself I have found this guys hacks but I don't know what program to patch the hacks with myself. I tried patching the Oot beam blade hack with a standard 64 rom patching program and it froze when I tried to do the spin/beam blade attack. I think it was the patch-o-matic. I deleted it though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f_QvbCZ7rU http://spinout182.com/?a=z I suppose the zelda's birthday texture packs would work but I would be more interested in the Wind Waker cell shaded style hacks and those are probably produced using higher graphics. Spinout has a bunch of hacks on his page but I didn't do enough research to find out how to properly apply the patches. So I haven't been able to really test them officially on everdrive. I don't even have my own computer at the moment, or I would have downloaded an emulator, and tested it on that to make sure I patched it correctly. I start a new job in april so I will be able to get one and do more then. If someone would figure out if spinouts stuff works that would be cool but I'm guessing it doesn't
For anyone else who might be reading I'll list this stuff that does work on Everdrive Zelda's Birthday Goldeneye x plenty of hacks on the Goldeneyevault site do work such as the Kakariko maps hack for Perfect dark, or the all solo's in in multiplayer maps hack (also for Perfect Dark) Oot Master quest, and Oot master quest (debug) Not sure but I think I've read something about some F-zero hacks working but I haven't ever played F-zero for 64 until I got the Everdrive so it didn't interest me enough As far as I know none of the Mario 64 hacks work
Hacks designed with the F-Zero X editor are confirmed working on hardware. ATM only Mario64 hacks via editor are known to fail on hardware.
Well I found out Zelda's Birthday doesn't really work for ED64. You can select stages from the debug stage select, but if you play the story and try to leave Links house at the beginning of the game it will freeze :/ I wish Zeth would fix this
Goldeneye X version 5d has been updated, and is available, as always, from The Goldeneye Vault: http://www.goldeneyevault.com/
