The Japanese or 2nd European and probably US too version of the Saturn pad by Sega. failing that get the japanese only Arcade Stick. It's based on the Sega Astro City arcade cabinets.

yep, the first version is crap but the second one (or should i say the first? (it was the first jap. saturn pad (and the only one), so the first saturn pad as well (there's too much ''( )'' here! :smt043 ) ) ) is way better for fighting games.

with the cost in consideration I found Hori FightingStick SS a good choice.
I like it's metal body which gives a nice sturdy base to bang away :p

not sure but there used to be an eBay seller flogging these at $9 a pop last year...

that and me being Hori nut - I have numerous Hori stick/pad/and other odd items for various consoles... one grip I have is as far as patch-slot controller goes Sammy dlx one is the one die for - then again I have chrome fetish... :p - compared to plain Hori controller. And those mahjong and poker controllers ??? Yea forgot that Fighting Fish rod from Hori for PS. Nice piece of kit that is...

    cheers

    except the button layout.
I prefer the way Hori did on its FS SS.

    cheers

  6. While the Model 2 controller is a fairly good choice, don't let people scare you away from the first US/European model as well - it has a nice sturdy feel, and is very comfortable, and I sometimes find the Model 2 controller a bit too small for my hands.

I like model 2 Saturn pad as well, model 1's Dpad is funky IMO.

When you guys say model two do you mean the round button saturn, my Japan saturn and USA saturn are both round button.

I believe M1 pad refers to that fat MD style pad bundled with US Saturn and M2 pad is refers to the Saturn we know today - did the fat one came out in Japan as well? coz I only saw M2 style in grey and white and skeleton...

    cheers

Fat model was released in US/CAN only, there were two model 2 style pads too, grey (JP style) and black.

we don't talk about the machine , we talk about the pads. But the round button console (wich is like the ''saturn model 2'') comes with the second model of controller. The oval button saturn (wich is the first model (i love the design better) comes with a pad model 1.

    Lost?

the ''fat'' controller was only released for NTSC-US and PAL territories, the japanese controller was released with saturn model 2, the controller is named model 2 here, but it's actually the first (because the saturn was first released in japan)

    hope it helps.

the Japanese Virtua Stick is my weapon of choice... the first Japanese arcade stick from Sega (in the colour scheme of the grey Saturn) is a bit too small for my tastes.

I played a lot with my skeleton pad (used to be a "fighting game hardcore gamer" :smt043 )
I switched to the arcade stick 2 years ago. The virtua stick appears to be a very good choice (also, you can change some parts with sanwa stuff, which makes an awesome stick)
