Softmodded Xbox is finally dead ;_; Upgraded the HDD to 320GB and just finished putting about 65GB of CoinOPs on it. Wanted to enable 720P/1080i for XBMC and learned that I needed to enable it from the MS Dash before applying the softmod. Proceeded to remove the softmod and restore the MS Dash from my backup using Auto Installer.. Everything was going okay and then the Xbox needed to reboot to finish the process, reboots and BAM "Your Xbox needs to be serviced" (no error code) One thing to mention is the stock 5gb? 8gb? is dead and this was my only HDD for it. Can't do XboxHDM to restore as my pc doesn't have IDE! -.- Another thing to mention is this drive was using a SATA to IDE adapter and it was working fine (played a bunch of games, emulators, etc) and it was locked using configmagic meaning the default password is TEAMASSEMBLY. Sadly I have no way to unlock the drive or even read it for that matter. So I figured I would post here and see if anyone had any suggestions.. would installing or getting a chip installed solve this or is this pretty much a lost cause at this point? Better off just buying another Xbox? Thanks,
did you get a backup of your hd key and bios etc? the drive probably just needs locked again im not sure if there's any other way to do it than with xboxhdm
Might look into that, would have to find a chip and someone around me that can do it; No experience with soldering or even installing a chip for that matter. So after the chip is installed I would be able to boot from a dvd even with that error?
I didn't get a chance to back them up to my PC so the answer to that is no. If I could get XBOXHDM working I think I could fix it but no machine old enough to do so... first world problems lol
Yep, should work perfectly fine, considering a chip can be used to boot a DVD when the harddrive is blank.
And yet people continually bleet that XBox modchips serve no purpose anymore despite the fact they can fix damn near any problem you throw at them.
I know one thing, my Xbox is sure noisy. But it's a silly waste of shipping cost to have that alone upgraded.
I've personally never knocked chips just never had the skills to install one even those solderless ones... yeah I know it's sad; Looks like I'm going to have to find someone that can chip mine =/ Also after its chipped say I were to boot auto installer or hexen or any of those, chances are I would be able to fix whatever issues there is with my 320GB? Thanks for all the input guys I really appreciate it!
It should be easily fixed. Most likely you put a file in the wrong place. Honestly I had a harder time getting the solderless chips to work (actually ended up hotgluing it down at the time hah).
If your XBOX is a version 1.0 or 1.1 you can TSOP it. (If you can still boot from DVD) You should be able to boot from DVD still though, I think the missing dash is error 13 - 20, and there's no error there. Try reseating all connections to the Hard Disk, even though that error is 09, you still might be able get it to boot. It's odd that you don't have an error flag, 21 usually means a general error... So it's odd to know what problem your Xbox has.
It actually is a 1.0; I have tried reseating already to no avail. I agree it is weird there is no error code but it means the hdd is corrupt (to the xbox) or xboxdash.xbe is missing or something along those lines from my Googlin' not sure there is an easy fix hence looking into getting in chipped if it will get it up and running again. Also I cannot boot from DVD (backup or retail)
~$20 total prior to shipping. Installing one is so quick and easy I have a hard time justifying a high price for a basic install. Now if you want more than that it can become time consuming but it seems like you're capable of handling the software side of things just fine. This is the sort of mistake you learn from quickly and typically don't make twice.
my xbox1 is modchipped just to avoid these issues. also with 3 green leds, it reminds me 80s and disco music :victorious:. it must be some kind of xecuter though i don't know which. it has 3 switches and i get an error (same as the one posted here if i am not wrong) if i disable the modchip via one of the switches.
It sounds like the BIOS is corrupt, or something is messed on it. If the HDD was corrupt you'd get error 09 or the like. Easy fix would be a modchip (if it's pre-programmed) are you starting the system with the DVD in the drive? If you start it up without it, and then putting the DVD in it won't boot. Usually if the dashboard is missing, games will still boot with a flashing red/green light. So I don't really think a corrupted drive is the case here. If you have a EEPROM programmer you can remove the EEPROM from the board and flash any BIOS you want. Modchips are not really needed on 1.0/1.1 systems. If it's going to cost $20 for a chip, get a another XBOX and just TSOP it and throw your HDD in, or another one and setup with AID. Honestly NOT worth the money if you have start from scratch anyway...
