They dont want emulation at all dude! And who cares if it is illegal? having a modchip is way worst: I heard some guy in washington got 2 years and 25k for selling the damn things.
they arent saying this anymore, 'cause they fear that someone could sue them, and ruin their business.
Indeed, I dont know were they got the balls for doin it the 1st time. Or maybe they were just stupid...
Obviously the law varies from country to country - I think that principle is true here in the UK, but depending on if you have fair use rights and what they entail, a digital copy of a digital source can be legal. Heres the closest I can find to something explaining legal rights in various countries http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROM_image#Legal_Status_of_ROMs Mind you, I don't think it's ever been tested in any court, at least not when ownership of the original can be proven
That's the key point. It's really nice to finally see someone make it after all the ridiculous arguments over ROMs that fill video gaming boards The fact is that no one really knows the legal status of ROMs, either in the U.S. or Europe or China or anywhere else because there hasn't been enough precedent cases to establish the limits of what is legal. Without knowing of any specific precedents, I can guarantee that downloading ROMs for games that you've never owned is illegal, but anything short of that is fuzzy and will probably remain so for the foreseeable future because the big game companies don't seem terribly intent on prosecuting cases. Of course, Funkstar De Luxe is flat wrong because there are plenty of PD ROMs out there for just about every systems, often including formerly commercial games that have been let into the public domain by their copyright holders as well as homebrew stuff, of course, and possibly all the pirate original games which were never under any copyright. ...word is bondage...
here you have the right to have a backup copy. tought it is quite debated since you should destroy the copy if you don't own the original.......
The way i understand the law here: you have the right to a self made backup. You don't have the right to make the backup if there is any copy protection... wtf?
