Well, it only took me five years to get it, but it was worth the wait. I finally have what some consider to be the holy grail of Gran Turismo titles. Gran Turismo 2000. Also, I was able to get a copy of the Gran Turismo 4 Prius Trial. What is Gran Turismo 2000? Well, it's the very first playable Gran Turismo game, albeit a demo, for the PlayStation 2. As you could imagine, it was first seen in 2000, at the PlayStation Festival 2000. PlayStation Festival 2000 was an event to help promote the incoming PlayStation 2 console in Japan, held in Tokyo. One of the presenters at the show was Polyphony Digital, the company behind GT, led by Kazunori Yamauchi, the main creator of Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo 2000 was the first entry of racing simulation titles for the PlayStation 2, and was very far from being a full game. It is the earliest known developmental stage of Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, and only has one vehicle and one track. The car being a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V, and the track being Seattle Circuit. (correct me if I am wrong on the track) How did you get this demo back in the day? Well, you had to be there, at the PlayStation Festival 2000. They were given away so people could taste what racing would feel like on the next generation PlayStation of the time. Now, in 2015, almost 2016, they rarely ever surface. Never have I seen a copy on eBay or Amazon in all of my searching. They are now being held on to by Gran Turismo collectors and PlayStation collectors alike. Who knows how many of these are out there, but it is very likely that most racing fans will never see an actual copy. I feel privileged to have this piece of Gran Turismo, and PlayStation history. I am hoping to keep it well preserved, of course playing it every now and then, for the days to come. Pictures: BONUS! GT4 Prius Trial disc
Theyve shown up a number of times on Ebay and elsewhere over the years. They are relatively rare, but not impossible to find in the slightest.
I personally haven't. If I did I would already have it. Trying to find someone who wants to sell it is hard, and finding a copy on a site like eBay is even harder IMO. I think if this was easier to find we would have more information and pictures than we do now. I can't even find a picture on Google of the back of the sleeve it comes in.
They pop up from time to time on auction sites. This one just sold in September for $20... http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k189499514
I also have a special disc of Gran Turismo 5 that was given during a special Citroen event, to a very few people from the Citroen Managment. I will take pictures for you if you want.
