Haven't been playing for that long now (just unlocked the National A races), but so far it's a pleasant surprise after the disaster that was GT5. It seems like most of the things that made 5 bad have been fixed: loading times are much shorter, the level system which led to endless grinding is gone, there's no more used car dealership, the interface is much better, as is the AI...even the career mode has been given some much-needed variety with the return of Coffee Breaks and there are some sweet special events such as lunar exploration. The only thing that really disappoints me is the sound design, since all the cars pretty much still sound like vacuum cleaners and crashes sound like someone punching a cardboard box.

Believe it or not i'll wait for more reviews / hands on opinions.

GT5 was a train wreck that only got decent after spec 2.0 update.

I"ve read that they updated some standards to a "semi-premium" status, but there are still terrible looking cars, including the infamous Suzuki Alto Works. C'mon PD, how long does it take to re-texture those things?!

The worst, for me, is the lack of focus from both PD and Kazunori Yamauchi. They brought back Race Modifications in GT5 and now got rid of them again. They don't even managed to make a livery editor, something that Forza 2 already had. Also worth mentioning the sound department. That alone is a easy win for Forza. Then the worst use of license ever: Top Gear. It was so bad, they didn't renewed the license. Exclusive to Forza now.

But what i miss really are GT3 / GT4 classic tracks. Seattle Circuit, El Capitan, Mid-Field, Citta Di Aria, Costa Di Amalfi, George V Paris, Opera Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Seoul, SSR11, Cathedral Rocks, Grand Canyon, Smokey Mountai, Swiss Alps and Tahiti Circuit / Maze.

And i'm not even complaing about licensed stuff like Infineon and Valencia (Tourist Trophy only).

Hoping GT6 will be tons of fun, but GT4 remains the most complete experience of the series.

I will for sure. And i'll probably like to drive cars on it, specially on Mount Panorama and Silverstone.

But GT5 was such a huge letdown. That's impossible to forget. Plus i just read that GT6 already has a 1.2GB day one patch. My goodness, Kazunori really doesn't understand what a deadline is. I bet this "patch" are unfinished stuff that they couldn't complete before the game was sent to be pressed.

Anyway, does it have real racing grid starts? Or is it like GT5 where every single race is rolling start? It's more simple and faster to buy a car or every single one of them has a "celebration" purchase animation?

you have the rolling starts, but it feels much better for the cars you purchase and win. The motivation is much higher as GT5. The events comes better and smooth.

So you were expecting Polyphony Digital to fix all cars sounds? Nobody expecting Cars sound will be improve on Gran Turismo 6 after three years released of Gran Turismo 5. I don't expect Gran Turismo 7 on PS4 will improve car sound neither. Come on let be realistic, stop complaining about sound and enjoy GT simulator.

I agreed, Gran Turismo 4 indeed was the best and still is :)

    Back to topic

I could never understood why some gamers are easily becoming so bitchy about Gran Gran Turismo 5, I thought Gran Turismo 5 was pretty solid game after the updates and and yet I manage to complete the most goals on Gran Turismo 5 without complaining like a bitch.

I haven't pick up Gran Turismo 6 yet, however thanks god that finally some people can shut up and enjoy playing Gran Turismo 6 instead.

I don't think it's that unrealistic to expect better sounds from a game released three years later, let alone an upcoming game on a next gen system.

The Spec 2.0 update came out a year after release, that's a very long time to wait for them to fix the horribly designed mess that GT5 was at release (and a long time afterwards). Even that patch couldn't fix some of the game's problems like the godawful interface though, and to add insult to injury, Spec 2.0 came out around the same time as Forza 4 which was a much better game (and managed that without a year of patches too).

    I'd prefer Road America myself...

I hate the way they seem to ignore the engine sounds, to me sound is 50% of a driving game and over the years these games have failed to fill that sound gap adequately hence I stopped buying them. Shame too since I like the GT series (bar GT5).

This came out in the UK today - I havent bought it and wont be (no longer have a ps3 - I have a ps4)

This game to me is a disaster!!

Why would Sony release this as a ps3 exclusive when for the past year they've promoted the PS4!

This as a PS4 lauch tittle would have sold so many MORE consoles!

Bad move from Sony - especially since Xbox one was sold with Forza 5 as a lauch tittle.......

Think Sony was hoping to have Drive Club out but it back fired and got pushed to early next year.

I kinda thought that when I wrote it lol but point still stands.

They promote PS4 all year then push back drive club and release GT6 as a ps3 exclusive - making some people (including 2 people at my work) say 'no point getting a ps4 when they still releasing games like GT6 on ps3'

Its annoying aswell as a ps4 owner - I wanted a decent racing game to play with my little boy :-( (rant over)

I've read lots of Reviews and while most of them gave big scores, all of them mention the problems that were carried from GT5. Rolling stars, no livery editor, lacking some classic and important cars instead of Suzuki Alto, Daihatsu Midget, Kubelwagen, and so on. What really annoys me is that give the option of grid start for multiplayer (including pit crew on the grid!) but for the single player we're stuck with the damn annoying rolling start a.k.a. chase the rabbit.

To be honest i think reviewers were generous with scores. I haven't played it yet, but it looks like GT5 Spec 3.0 to me. What saves it really is the amazing racing / driving quality and the selection of tracks, even missing all of those i posted before.

PS: For you guys asking GT6 to be a PS4 game, just think about how pathetic standard cars would be on a PS4.

    No Imola yet either!

Don't tell me that Johnny :'( Why must Gran Turismo break my heart. I loved GT3 and GT4 so much on the PS2. I bought GT5 for full price, brand new and I felt like I was being punished. The load times were back breaking. No mods for the BRAKES, that's like the second most important mod you can make for a track car! They didn't let me change my gear ratios until like update number 20!

I won't lie, I played many many hours of GT5 and I loved some parts of it, but nearly 75% of the time I wasnt racing on the track, which tells you something is wrong. 50% of the time I was moving around screens to do necessary mods/adjustments which made me wait for load screens. Ugh.

I guess I won't be buying GT6 off the bat, the other thing the GT5 did which upset me is they made the XL version after. So basically you get rewarded for waiting. I'll wait till GT6 XL comes out for $20 and then grab it since the response I'm getting is the game is decent, no spectacular.

I bought GT5 for full price as well. But at least it was the collectors edition. The 1:43 diecast was a good value and made me less angry. As for playing it, i totally lost interest for GT5. Didn't even want to achieve level 30. First GT game i didn't want to finish (On GT4 i only missed the 24h races). I got the XL version for collection purposes though.

As i'm reading more stuff about GT6, i have to think both Kazunori and PD got mad. They have no idea of what they are doing. They add incomplete stuff, then remove it on the next game only to add a new incomplete feature. WTF?!

Rally Races still allow road racecars and sports cars on ice / dirt tracks. Why? Simply because they didn't separate the cars by category, like in previous games. Why would you race a rally on Ice against a Bugatti Veyron or a Corvette LM Racer?!

Why they upped the resolution from GT5 to GT6, if the engine was already stressing the PS3 capabilities. Why not just fix it a 720p and have a stable framerate?

They started developing for the PS3 in 2005 and planned GT HD to have:

I think this picture is from E3 or Tokyo Game Show... 2006! 7 years later, they still haven't finished their plan for Gran Turismo HD.

Here's a video of "Vision Gran Turismo", an GT4 HD version running on PS3... from 2005.

It shows El Capitan, Citta Di Aria, Grand Canyon, Costa Di Amalfi, Chamonix (full track)... All tracks missing to this day. But others like New York and Tahiti Maze were show at that time as well. All they needed to do was upgrade them a bit and retexture. I won't even talk about the sounds on this video... GT5 never sounded like that and i guess it's the same for GT6.

Anyway, i'll probably end up buying GT6 soon because of Mount Panorama, Ascari and some of these great tracks. But it's just sad how lame Polyphony Digital has become.

Glad i kept my copies of GT3 / GTC and GT4. Those were the days! Will continue to play them, even if they don't look as good on an HDTV.

E3 is always about lies anyway. Not sure how GT6 is until I play it, hope they fixed the sense of speed and added more interior views.
