Well, I just got a great puzzle game for my neo called Money Puzzle Exchanger made by a group called "Face". I haven't seen this in any other games I've owned. It got me interested in looking at more puzzle games made by devs that were lesser known...but put out a solid puzzle game. ideas? I figure this would be the place...maybe someone here has made a puzzle game?

    thanks

Money Puzzle Exchanger is highly estimated in the Neo community.

I have always wanted to get my hands on a copy of Zupapa! but gave up at some point. Some prefer that to Nightmare in the Dark (both MVS).

I haven't tried it yet myself but Baku Baku Animal (STV and Saturn) might also be worth having a look at. The there's Magical Drop 3 (MVS and Saturn). Nothing really obscure here though...

I loved Baku Baku back in the day but these days..... How about Cleopatra Fortune? You could get it on the saturn, Dreamcast (cost an awful lot), PSX or arcade PCB. That's a lovely action puzzle game by Taito.

FACE made an awful lot of PC Engine games. Many were pretty poor but they did put out one or two classics

All the Magical Drops are good. Star Triggon is excellent (PCB only)

If you like some change out of Y4000 and don't want to sell a kidney then you can buy it on Taito Memories Joukan (Taito Memories 2) for the PS2, the F3 board is stupidly expensive. It's also a board and not a cartridge meaning it's more expensive then it should be.

Idol Money Puzzle Exchanger is a great games and it's even on the Playstation and Gameboy, sadly no Neo Geo CD or Neo Geo version exists oddly enough...

Other puzzle games that are worth buying on the Neo Geo MVS are Magical Drop III (don't bother with 2), Puzzle Bubble, Joy Joy Kid all should be cheapish. Also worth getting. Puyo Puyo Tsu (2) by Sega, Tetris Plus 2 by Jaleco and Mr Driller by Namco. Mainly as these can be bought cheap.

Probably with most puzzlers is that they can be bought on consoles for less money and they are just as good, some puzzlers are either hard to find or expensive. I like

Locomotion by Konami (I love this game, move track to get the train to go around the entire track)
Soldam by Jaleco (Simple puzzle game featuring the Rodland characters)
Sokoban Deluxe by Namco (best version of all)
Oh My God by Atlus (great samples and some interesting game play)
Borench by Sega (A guide the ball to the bottom of the screen by putting things in it's way game, it's strangely quite addictive and shameful that Sega never converted it to anything)
Solomons Key by Tecmo (its a puzzle game, bloody hard when you get to the later levels)
Puzznic by Taito (er very different from the home versions...)
Klax by Atari (a very underrated puzzler)

but finding them or getting them cheap is another matter.

If you want to play puzzle games then I suggest buying a Gameboy, more puzzlers then you can shake a stick at.

I've been playing SPF2T on Xbox Live lately. It's pretty interesting to finally play against someone other than the cpu.

Well, if you want to hook up a trackball and a joystick to a PC, you can play Qublix on an arcade machine

Or if you're quite elite and rich you can go for the Naomi GD-ROm (? -- maybe it's a board) which is the DC port is not based on. It has a slightly different title which I can't remember.

I wouldn't call 20,000 yen at the most expensive shop in town stupidly expensive. Just overpriced.

Taito's F3 cart Land Maker will melt your face off. It can be had on Yahoo Japan Auctions for like 1000yen or maybe less.

Can vouch that "Nightmare in the Dark" is good fun (Neo Geo MVS) and "Sega Tetris" on (Naomi cart)...

The wife still loves "Puzzle Bobble" on (Neo Geo MVS)

Don't know any of the rarer Japanese ones mentioned. Will have to look them up.

One PCB I always wanted to get was Puzzle De Bowling but too pricey for me. You would like Uo Poko by cave as well. Kinda like puzzle bobble meets pinball. If you like really challenging ones you can get Cue Brick by Konami.

sorry to rebirth this old thread, but i couldnt resist talking about puzzle games :D i can heartily recommend magical drop 3 for VS and uo poko for 2p co-op i would suggest trying 'star sweep', zn1 or system11 game with lineage from tetris attack/panel de pon/puzzle star sweep. better vs mode than that game.

Another vote for both Cleopatra Fortune and Puzzle Fighter. Both have excellent music as well.

EDIT: last time I played SPF2T on Xbox Live there was some hack going around where you'd join a lobby, start a game, the other player would quit immediately but it would count as you losing. Fucked my stats up completely.

Tetris: The Grand Master is pretty nice. TGM: Ace for the 360 is also an excellent port and provides the great playability of the uber-expensive arcade TGM 3: Terror Instinct.

Aquarush (Namco 1999, arcade-only) is rather unknown but a great puzzler and very challenging. Watch a video on youtube if you don't believe me :)

If you want a puzzle jumper rather than a puzzle "block drop-style" game, try Lup Salad. There's also a remake for the Nintendo DS while the original is rather uncommon and availble only for the PlayStation 1.

    Some more nice puzzlers:
    * Disney's Magical Tetris Challenge feat. Mickey (excellent Tetris game, licensed by Arika (Grand Master series))
    * Otenki Kororin (nice, unoriginal PS1-puzzler)
    * Puchi Carat (arcade, psx: mixture of Blockout and Puzzle Bobble)
    * Pop'n Pop (arcade, psx: mixture of Space Invaders and Puzzle Bobble)
    * Kyutenkai (ss+ps: action/puzzle type pinball game)
    * Quarth (probably well-known for NES and Gameboy. 2D-Shooter meets Tetris)
