I have had over 20 of the green HALO xbox over the years and all of them have had a 1.4 motherboard. Today I got a green HALO console that had a X3 installed in it and 1.6 motherboard. I have never run across this before! The manufacture date is 4-8-2004. I have 5 other HALO xboxs here and they are all made in 2-xx-2004. Is this a rare find? I know that the motherboard does belong since it is missing that extra screw hole in the green shell near the video connector. Does this mean there could be a 1.5 mixed in the HALO consoles also? I have always wanted to find a 1.5 for some reason. I like to have odd things!
It did not have the refurb sticker and the fact that the bottom shell does not have the molded plastic screw tab that the 1.4's have. This means the green bottom shell was molded for the 1.6. I looked at the other shells from the 1.4's and the molded plastic tab is there. This is a original 1.6 HALO xbox.
I think pics would need to be in order lol. The first thought that came to mind was that someone took a 1.6 motherboard and fit it into a non 1.6 halo shell. All you need to do is dremel away the screw tab and it looks legit (I've done this before) However, I am thrown about the sticker. Idk if they are hard to remove and install on another shell which may have been done. But those were just thoughts, it should be pretty easy to tell if it was 'created' or released.
There were two runs of the Halo box. Most were 1.4, but there are 1.6 units. My brother got stuck with one.
I will take a pic tonight once I get home. But it is not dremeled off. I can see clearly that it is perfectly smooth. But now Borman has made it clear that the 1.6's do exist. I guess it is not as rare as I thought. To bad it is a 1.6 they suck! Plus it has been opened and modded. Funny thing is someone used a xapter cut all the legs off and solder little wires in place of the leg. For all that I do not know why they did not just do a LPC rebuild.
I'll tell you what's rare. My 1.1 console came with a factory installed Samsung SDG605B drive. From what I could tell of the date it should have the Thompson drive. Console was not refurbished or opened before I got it. I figured it was among the very last of the 1.1 models and right at the beginning of the SDG605B drives.
I have seen all types of weird combos. I have seen thompson drives in with 1.4 consoles. They still had the label intact. Now that was disappointing!
I have a 1.6 Halo as well. 1.6s don't bother me, plus they have a more aggressive-looking metal shielding, which looks nice on a transparent system.
