PCB cost - $15, acrylic case [standoffs, nuts, screws, spacers and panels] - $30. Case price is much more affected by the cut length than by a material. Components price - that's what is the most expensive.
Don't really understand what do you mean by 4x4 pattern. The orientation of SCART sockets doesn't affect PCB area, and PCB manufacturer usually charge per area. (square cm/inch etc.)
"getting creative" doesn't work here because you want straight traces, minimal trace length, less vias and proper shielding, otherwise it may affect the signal quality. Check out the other SCART switches, almost all of them are aligned the same way.

Besides the technical objections to this by SuperG...this would simply be very cluttered. You'd have to have enough space on either side of the board for cables to go because of all the SCART connectors that lead out at angles. I think we'd all go nuts. Might as well daisy chain at that point :/

I actually mistyped and wrote 4x4 when I meant 2x4. What I meant was that you currently have the connectors oriented in an 8x1 row with the connectors oriented vertically. My suggestion was to rotate the connectors so that they are oriented horizontally and arrange them in two columns of four each.

That seems a pretty good enough reason for me. As you were then.

I like all the progress you've made SuperG and I can't wait until we can all get one of these in our video setups :)

I was wondering, when we get to order one if we would have the option for a color choice for the top acrylic piece?

While I don't plan to do custom orders like this myself, it can be done either through the retailer or I can publish case drawings and you can do it yourself through manufacturer of your choice. Currently I am using http://www.customlasercutting.com.

    Update:
PCB is 99% ready, I decided to replace all aluminum capacitors with tantalum ones - this way we don't need top solder mask at all (like it was in previous switch versions).

Only just discovered this project, extremely interested in getting on board when you're ready to open the floodgates, my old switcher from years ago appears to be on its last legs and I'm desperate to keep all the old consoles running smoothly.

I am also extremely interested in this as well. I will wait my turn, but this would add quite some ease of use to my gaming setup.

I have been following this with interest! Can't wait for another pre-order list to be open as I am planning the gameroom in your soon to be built house and will be needing 2 or 3 of these. Thanks for taking the time to make the best possible product possible, it will be well worth the wait.

That's great news, hoping that they turn out great, very eager to get on the waiting list for the next batch once these are finished.

I got super excited because I saw the email notification for this post, and then not long after I got an email about a Private Message. I was like "Oh shit I'm in the next ten!" Turned out to be spam :(.

Anyways, glad to hear you're moving forward and progress is going well!

I've been following this thread for a while, just a a couple quick questions (forgive me if these have been answered before): Is it still automatic only (no way to select an input) and is the price still $120.

    Thanks in advance, looks great.

    It's still automatic.
It won't fit into $120 anymore because now it has much more components than it was before, I'll calculate price later.
