    Hey,

Been doing some reading through old GH2 hacking info and found where someone at one point had snagged a copy of the GH2 E3 build:

    Original topic on Scorehero
SH topic asking for help with file structure, and listing a few "techsongs" that weren't shipped on any demo

Physical picture of a copy of the disc. No idea whether it's a copy physically used at E3, or just a standard burnt game.

Anyone here got a copy of this disc, or knows someone who does? I'm in the process of researching the early GH games and, if the info I'm picking up from that first thread jives with a bit of info seen in the OPM demo (the one I call the "early" demo) then this disc is actually earlier than the OPM demo and might have some cool juicy info (or possibly, but less likely, could hold the key to enabling the debug mode).

I'm mainly looking to snag this for preservation, same reason I downloaded the late demo way back when - now I don't think it's available online.

It says burn on it, so I'd have to say it's not an original.

You're probably right, but that's speculation that doesn't really matter in the long run, because it doesn't invalidate the contents of the disc, just an additional curiosity about the disc itself. Point being, this is all about the goal of data preservation. If I ever do track this build down, and the person who has it doesn't require me not to do so as a condition of getting a copy, I will make sure to spread the ISO to as many people as I can.

Data preservation is good, so at least there's a copy that we know of.

The original would be nice though

Yeah, that is true. As much as I care first and foremost about the data being preserved (with any pre-release media), having the original media is a big plus in terms of ownership (not to mention worth a hell of a lot more, even if the data is no longer unique). Seeing as this is most likely an unauthorized burn, though, I doubt there's much value in the physical disc itself. Unless they just bunged out copies of a master disc for all the units that were in use throughout E3 (which would still boot fine on TEST PS2s).

Still, regardless, I want the content. I don't even care if I have to agree to not redistribute the ISO to snag a copy. I want to document interesting things over on The Cutting Room Floor.

Has anyone managed to find early versions of Rock Band yet?

Not me, I wish. I'd give my left nut for the build with Welcome to the Jungle and GH-style gems. Only prototype builds of HMX GH/RB games I have are the two publically released GH2 demos (OPM demo on an original disc, late demo from a torrent ages ago). Both I have hacked to unlock all menus (and in the case of the late demo, add an unlock all code so all 31 songs are accessible).

I also still want the GH80s review build. That and the original Dope Nose MID and VGS files (since chances of snagging that build or any early GH1 build, with maybe the exception of one from E3, are slim unless you happen to be friends with the founders of HMX and they had builds stashed away).

Look up how long Sony have been distributing those DVD-R's. If the DVD-R's are newer than 06 its fake.

Still, I want a copy of it. That picture came from 2006, and I'm not doubting the authenticity of the data. GH hacking was virtually nonexistant back then (limited to injecting MID and VGS files into existing spaces, there's no way the contents of the ARK files aren't 100% authentic). I'm an archaeologist, not a collector :p

Yeah, I've actually been meaning to see if the USBD.IRX and USBKB.IRX from it will allow use of the debugging functions in the GH engine. Never have gotten it to boot on my PS2 via OPL, however.

Strange that it doesnt boot for you, it was the same file I had transferred to the PS2 HDD / run in an emulator.

And if you are interested in buying the original, let me know and I can dig it out, I have that and an Amplitude review copy (although I think that was nearly retail / retail.)
