    Hey Guys

I have an AVI file that I'm exporting through Quicktime Pro 7 using H.264 compression. The AVI plays fine with Quicktime, but after the compression it loses it's audio.

I've done some searching on the internet and it appears that I'm missing a codec. Each message board I find seems to recommend a different one, so I thought I'd come here and see what you guys recommend.

All codecs (decoders) should theoretically produce the exact same raw output so it's more a matter of whats working for you. Can you not use Quicktime? That would be a start.

I'm using Quicktime for the first time. I made a game video that ended up being over a gig when I made the AVI. I was going to run it through Ashampoo Shrink & Burn so I could drop the file size to upload onto YouTube. But since the file is over a gig Ashampoo is showing a 50% loss in quality.

So I put the AVI through Quicktime using H.264 and this is where the sound loss occurs. The AVI itself will play in Quicktime and produce sound. But the sound doesn't make it through the conversion process.

    That's where I am now...

Have you tried anything other than quicktime to convert the video?? I would try another program for converting the AVI and then play it in quicktime to see if there is still a problem.

Are you using a Windows PC? Get the K-lite pack and try encoding your video using Microsoft GraphEdit (included in the pack.)

Or just use VLC player. Are you sure the audio is actually gone?
