I dont see how that is any different than putting unlicensed real life cars in Vice City for example.
Reead this one on foam max enterprises. They launched a suit against a group of 'ball hackers' who bounce their rubber balls the wrong way. Is this a joke? http://nfg.2y.net/static/EEplpFyEAAeYxFeynj.php
Tecmo are jerks they just make people angry instead of making them happy it is the same shit with Chrono Trigger Resurrection SquareEnix threatened them with a lawsuit because it was there property and bla bla bla well it is the money that talks. maybe some real hackers would hack tecmo´s site and bring it to its knees or something then they could sue the real hackers instead of happy people making a nude patch / hack.
It is very sad to see a company waste so much time and money on something so trivial. Everyone has to buy their game (like they said) so what's the problem? It is funny that they're being had up for altering the game, and not for copying it. Surely they have to have a modified Xbox, and perhaps modify the game code slightly, to play this version?
They didn't go after the hackers, but the people running the site... which are much easier to hunt down. I only own one Tecmo game... and it looks like it's going to stay that way. So fucking pissed at companies getting sand in their clits about nothing... no pictures at game shows, can't skin things (which would only BOOST sales), etc. It's a fucking joke.
Maybe we should all boycott Tecmo - make a large petition vowing never to buy any of their games again. Show them consumer power!! heh
this is such a sad joke. it used to be: you bought something, you own it, its yours to do what you like. i bought a copy of dead or alive 3, its mine. i can paint it, i can scratch marks on it, i can put it in a blender. if i want i can apply a nude patch to it. how is it any different from buying a sports illustrated swimsuit magazine and pasting in cutouts from porn? sports illustrated cant stop me from pasting nipples into a magazine i allready own, they dont have the right. since when did reverse engineering software become a crime; you can reverse engineer a car engine, a toaster, even a yoyo. if you own something you have the right to take it apart and see how it works. when you reverse engineer software you are just translating it from one language to another; from a language you may not understand to one that you do...binary to hex, hex to assembly, bla to blah, ect. would tecmo have the courts make translating english to japanese a crime? because that is exactly what they are trying to do... if anything the videogame companies are the ones who should be sued...for overstepping onto the rights of the consumer. i will not be buying anymore tecmo products untill i see an apology.
Unauthorized reverse engineering is illegal. This is how it's always been. Don't make this into a cryfest, you have the right to do whatever you want to your physical property but reverse engineering clearly violates intellectual property rights, think about that...
I don't think it's rediculous, this isn't the first time people have been sued over nude patches. I don't know why everyone's so mad when Tecmo exercises their rights as IP holders. I think it's unfair to sue for so much but it's up to them.
I almost fucking cried when that stuff about Resurrection happened. Me, being a HUGE fan of Chrono Trigger (hell, I play it through every christmas vacation - the music has become permanently engraved in my mind much like christmas carols). I am not buying any Square Enix game that is not used. Not that they've peddled anything worthwile in several years, though. I mean, Hell, good RPGs for PS2 (no good RPGs for any other platform) have not been by Squenix. Breath of Fire V is by Capcom, Suikoden is by Konami, Grandia is by UbiSoft / Game Arts, Arc The Lad TOS is by Sony / CattleCall, etc. Even XenoSaga is now a Namco property. Good, Squenix would have probably raped it or just abandoned it to produce more crap games like FFTA and the such. i do have some faith in FFXII, because Sakimoto is doing the soundtrack and Matsuno is directing. Let's wait and see. But the aggravating part of their bullshit against the resurrection team is that there's no sign of a decent Chrono sequel in the next years.... I fucking hate Square Enix Ah, and I support the Tecmo Boycott.
This is my favorite quote. Wholesome values?!?! You have got to be a Grade A bullshitter to be able to say that and keep a straight face.
Temco is going to lose, for the same reason Nintendo lost when they tried to sue Galoob over the Game Genie. It is not illegal to modify a purchased piece of software to your convience, as long as you do not distribute that software for monetary purposes. Just like if I bought 1000 Ford cars, painted a different logo on them, and tried to sell them as my own "brand." A game patch is more akin to a custom set of hubcaps, an add-on that modifies an exsting, legally purchased item (in this case, a game.) It is only illegal if you basically "steal" someone's program and pass it off as your own (like say, take Windows XP and create an operating system from it, but keep most of it intact and try to pass it off as something you made yourself.) 1) Ninjahackers.com is not distributing thier game illegally 2) Ninjahackers.com is not distrubuting code based on thier game illegally. 3) Ninjahackers are doing thier modifications on legally purchased copies of the game. Temco has no legal ground to stand on. The reason they're doing this is to keep "the integrity of thier product," i.e. they don't want a nudie patch floating around on the off chance that some angry parent might think they endorsed it. They're just going to make themselves look bad.
