I was just telling a friend about multi part boss battles. When I was like hmm sounds like a good thead idea. I was in paticular thinking about the 3 stage Dracula Battle in Castlevania 3 but the worst is in Ninja Gaiden....Ok you reach the final battle you fight demon mask dude then Jaquio then the demon from the statue OK...... if you die...... YOU HAVE TO START THE WHOLE FUCKING STAGE OVER AGAIN and as you recall IT WAS NOT a forgiving stage AT ALL I hear battle toads is brutal but I haven't played much of it. Controling Solar Jetman was pretty bad too. You guys?
The last series of boss battles in Actraiser...seriously. You have to fight each boss over again in a row, fighting up to the last boss. The evil Ice Dragon boss was hard enough on its own! Now I have to fight like all the bosses before him and fight a REALLY hard boss after him?! Fuck that shit.:banghead:
I found the same issue. In order to beat the game I had to collect as much magic items as possible so I could expend them during the Dragon, as well as others which sap too much energy/time from the last fight.
Those things you mentioned are still better than what most newer games have, which is generally no challenge at all. The Ninja Gaiden deal with going back to the start of the stage isn't that bad, for one thing it's better as you have the chance to restock your Chi and pickup whatever Ninja Art you need to deal some damage to the boss. I don't remember the final stage really being that hard. Maybe a bit unforgiving but you could easily play through it perfectly without taking so much as a scratch.
Well I WAS going to say the demon boss from Ninja Gaiden 1, but you guys already beat me to it.:icon_bigg Anything after Stage 4 in Blaster Master was hair pulling for me.
I always hated the difficulty level in games like Gradius, Salamander , R- type and Contra. they let you collect power ups and weapons at the start of the stage then they start beating you up and if you die your screwed because you'll start from the middle of the stage but with no weapons at all !!
The giant bird (phoenix?) in Zelda 2 is a pain in the ass. First you have to use thunder on him which drains half your magic. Then you use shield and possibly jump to last longer than 2seconds. He throws a barrage of fireballs down and yeah everytime you hit him he throws more. It's just plain luck.
Thunderbird. Quite easy actually, just use reflect also, IIRC it makes your shield able to stop his fireballs. I do remember not being able to beat him when i was younger though. Something about beating Z2 1500000 times ( an exaggeration, obviously:icon_bigg) makes the whole game seem easy now.
I'd have to go with any game that has a one life / no continue limit. For example Double Dragon 3. Love DD2 and like DD as well but when I got my hands on 3 I was like WTF! when I died the first time.
Me and my brother used to play the TMNT games for the NES all the time, but we never EVER beat them. Oh, and the underwater bomb disarming level...THE UNDERWATER BOMB DISARMING LEVEL!!
WOW i hated that level! One of the only times ive ever broke a controller in my life was because of that level ( and i was only like 6 at the time!)
I hate elecmans fuckin' level on megaman I.. It's a friggin pain in the ass to beat it.. O_O The rage... THE RAGE.
Elecmans level never really bothered me in MM1, now Icemans level on the other hand...................:banghead: EDIT: This kinda goes with what GOH was saying, FUCKING BLOCK PUZZLES!!!!!!!
Block puzzles have never been difficult for me.. I'm good at memorizing and synchonizing my movements. Elecmans stage though is a pain with those ladders and those friggin electric bolts out of the walls. Everything in that level is trying to beat the crap out of you... Even the floors and the walls are attacking you. O_O It's like WTF! thank god megaman has a health bar!
Abadox is pretty brutal. I think the 3rd or 4th level is as far as I've ever gotten. When it scrolls downward then scrolls back upward is where I lose it every time.
you guys SERIOUSLY can't beat the underwater level of TMNT?? I learned where all the bombs were when i was 3 or 4...
