Bored at work, posting a few things on Japanese websites, I found this.
Note: more might be added to my post at JG.

Too bad Japan gets all the good stuff. Only thing decent in the American arcades is DDR...and watching overweight people play it in public. Good times....

Heh, I actualy have nothing against overweight people. Hell, I have seen both good and bad overweight DDR dancers (Worst was someone with a shirt that exposed his belly.)

But anyways, back on the subject, that is a pretty big step with arcade games. Only thing I am curious about is how they are going to set it up so it can play online.

I doubt most Japanese have PCs capable of playing HL2 very well. So the Arcade port seems inevitable.

Most game centers already have DSL (or better) installed. Virtua Fighter 4 basically pushed every arcade to either get a broadband connection, or have absolutely no VF customers, which was big money when it came out. Sega is now pushing those connections again with Virtua Striker 4 (there's a post about this at the Japanese Gaming forums as well).

As for "online" games... in the true sense of the word, the only ones I know of are Mahjong games, that need almost zero bandwidth. HL2 would be a first of sorts, as far as I know.

It's not really a question of having computers capable of playing, but having a lot of software that demands having the hardware capable of playing it. PC gaming in Japan is about 80% hentai crap, which is almost never 3D. However, last I checked, Akihabara part shops are wall-to-wall Radeons.

I dont remember if they officially released them yet but I'm sure you'll need at least a:

1.7ghz P4 or AMD equivilant (AMD XP1700+ thats actually 1.4ghz)
256mb RAM (512mb and up recommended)
    lots of HDD space
and a Direct X9 video card, Radeon 9500 and up, Geforce Fx5700

To actually enjoy the game with a nice framerate and graphics settings, you would want at least the following:

    P4 2.2ghz or Athlon 3200+
    768mb Ram+
    Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb+

Minimum requirements are a joke. ;-)

Dude, I go to the gym 3-4 times a week, go to the beach, and ride a bike, and I've still put on 5 pounds from the food in this fucking country. What a daily battle... it would be easier to stop wanking than eat healthy here.

I don't excercise at all, and I'm not fat. All comes down to how much you eat, not even what. :smt045

It actually comes down to your metabolism.

I have three friends who lost weight due to DDR :) One lost like 30 lbs over a year, the other lost like 15 over a few months. Heavier people are the best at DDR, their steps actually register.

As for weight:food, it has to be a combination of diet, metabolism speed, portions as well as how many times you eat a day. You will probably maintain a constant weight overtime if you have a constant eating habit, be it once a day... Obviously, if you eat a little bit pretty often, you'll always have an active metabolism.

  19. I can vouch for the DDR thing as well - had a friend drop 60 pounds with no change in diet in 6 months back when I lived in the dorms. We'd play for 1-2 hours at a time 3 or so times a week - it does wonders.

Well, science is disproven a lot, but this is pretty basic stuff. Okay, I'll put it in layman terms. Kyuusaku's answer is actually the correct answer (if you want to lose weight, you need to eat right AND excercise). However, it really comes down to your metabolism in terms of losing body weight. I excercise quite a bit for my age (and hobby). I had my metabolic rate measured at 2370 calories a day (that's sedetary, btw). So, if I eat 2370 calories in a day, every day, for a year, and keep the same metabolic rate, i won't gain or lose a pound. Deviate up or down and you'll gain/lose weight respectively.

Some Hawaiian born Japanese chick took the same test and her metabolic rate was 1200. In other words, she's pretty much fucked, as cutting down below 1200 calories a day is... well... tough.

The best thing to do? Raise your metabolic rate. How? Eat less food more often (4 meals a day is good) and excercise frequently. Of course, stop eating the bullshit they sell in restaurants is probably the smartest thing you can do (which is where my original comment came from).

AntiiPasta is the only person from the board that's met me, so it might be hard to imagine, but I used to weigh about 60 pounds more than I do now, and I've weighed as little as 15 pounds less than now.
