    *visible anxiety*
    *heavy breathing*

i might've said this already, but the Xanadu\MUDS release had downsampled audio, so IF we get a rip of this GD-R, we would finally have the authentic, non-modified files for a true release

One of the people I had bumped into at Anime Expo worked on Half-Life and referenced this working
I cant confirm if THIS has it but they did explicitly tell me that it is somewhere and it does in fact work

Their explanation came with the following (I dont remember it verbatim)
IIRC they saw this GD-R and the discussion around it, hence why they mentioned this to me prior to me asking.

So they saw the recent posts about this very disc or was it the ones before about the supposed Katana build showed off on ebay years back he saw?

What is interesting is this is an actual GDR unlike the previous leaked build that was supposedly leaked by Gearbox themselves to the guy who originally posted it. One of my best friends on Steam is even more of a super fan of HL than I am, spoke with Randy Pitchford, and from what he had told him, he is pretty certain that it was somebody within Gearbox who sent Xanadu or MUDS the files from a devbox. If not Randy himself who was involved. They did so much work on it I guess they just wanted gamers to get to see all of their labor on it.

I dont have any answers to this unfortunately. They saw the post and recalled the multiplayer aspect because that *was* a thing. Whether it's about this specific version is something I didn't ask
I was going to bring it up in the discussion but he did that for me since I guess he lurks here a little bit? Maybe? I'm not entirely sure. We'll see sooner or later for sure

I did message the guy on Facebook letting him know that there's a community of folks looking to help get this disc dumped or at the very least investigated. He hasn't replied yet. Hoping this doesn't go the way of Deer Avenger (especially since this discovery is about 1000 times more interesting than Deer Avenger!)

Yeah the gd-r of deep avenger was a too early beta to be playing.
I'am more sad about the might and magic 3 gd-r which looked like a complete game or almost.
Here we have already a half life playable, so looking for some adds will be more interesting.

Thanks for sending the message to him.

What do you mean? The current release is very playable. I have mastered playing it with DC controller just fine. Obviously takes getting used to but works fine. Face buttons are exactly like W, A, S, D controls on keyboard, so don't see how it is unplayable?

Also, the controls are fully customizable, like most other DC FPS games are. Guess that attests to their PC heritage, and maybe because the console had official mouse and keyboard possibly as well.

Just wondering, about the only one build that we already have (which is dated as May 24, 2001) is there a GDI dump available somewhere? I think not, but I've heard that someones here in AG have Half-Life GD-R discs, or I'm wrong?

no, i've looked into this in great detail, but only once. the original release was from MUDS and\or XANADU, its not clear which was first. one of these groups downsampled the audio, and made a CDI release. there's no known whereabouts of the GD-R (if there was one) or the HDD image

feel free to research yourself, but that's all i was able to find. audio downsampling was mentioned in the MUDS and XANADU Readme.txt

No someone (thedoctor45)has done a "gdi optimized" in order to play it with dreamshell in dma because dreamshell read only the win ce games in gdi opt.

the release we have for now was done in cdi ; hope this will be released in gdi.

Rebuilding a GDI from the CDI isn't what Sizious was asking though.

I recall reading that some member here was the source of the release a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure they simply dumped the game with a devkit or coder's cable + SD2 back then.

"In 2003, a late stage build of the Dreamcast version of Half-Life, numbered 1672, was leaked to the public. This build is dated from May 23, 2001, only about a month prior to the game's cancellation."

So that is the previous build number we got. This is indeed a good deal older then. Interesting thanks for the picture Laurent!
