If its an earlier build, I wonder whether it has more bugs, quirks.. etc

Most likely, but the reason to get excited here is that it is a true GDI, which we never got before, and we can see how the original file structure was on disc as well as uncompressed audio. The audio is what I am interested in having which isn't down sampled.

Be patient a little more, Loloretro is a dreamcast lover like us.

Here some pictures from him :

You can find others pictures on facebook.

For the half life gold version we have already For me it's a 1ST_READ.BIN instead of 0WINCEOS.BIN even the game is wince.
So maybe it's an advanced version than the gold release.

He said the release come in one month max he wants to finish the game before.

I have found this CD-R from a old reviewer whit 300-400 beta.

I m sure its a burned copy but maybe ....

A internal burned copy in the magazine office? Why à journalist have a CD-R of this games and why his other dreamcast review are on GD-R :)?

Maybe it's just the old half life release in a cd-r. 2002 is too late, right?

2002 is much later way after the fact. May 23, 2001 was the build we got which was about 1 month before the June release that was supposed to happen.

Regardless, ask him to dump it so we can take a look at it. We already know it will most likely be a fake, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Also, a month before release sounds about right for a final release. You need about 6 weeks to press official discs to be able to send them to retail.

Or he just wrote it wrong. People of all kinds pirate stuff, including developers and magazine authors. Some of the early Halflife pirates were going around as "Half-life Gold"

Yeah, there are 2 versions of the game here too. Not sure what is up with that? At first I was guessing it included the CDR he found that says 2002 on it? But the crazy thing here is that some of the .bin files are in excess of 400mb, up to 600+mb so this is a lot bigger than the older release for sure. Way bigger.

Ah ok was thinking it might be that too. Was just wondering why the files were so different in size though.

Loaded it up on my SD card on GDEMU. Ok in game first I can say that at least while on the tram in the beginning Gordon is perma crouching. Not sure why this is? Does anybody else have this issue?

@truemaster1 I think they are the same version just dumped differently with different compression methods? It should be pretty much identical.

A dump is in 2352 bytes/sector for the data, the other is 2048. I really don't know why @Laurent released the two versions... ? The 2352 version can be used to generate the 2048 version.
