ah, but yeah there are already tools for extracting stuff from the halo 3 beta (developed nad used within the 2 weeks the game was public) so for someone to make one for the halo 2 beta tools would not be out of the question.
Yeah people could do it just its very unlikely that its going to fall in to the right persons hands who can do it and then will be willing to release the mod.
<< modder right here have you tried injecting them yourself with the avaible halo 2 tools? I believe the program Insolence will let you take things from the beta and put them in. Have you tried taking the old maps, signing them, and adding them to the menu under a new name to see if they are bootable with the finalized engine? I don't see why the beta maps would be unable to boot from the retail engine. 1. Open up H2edit or Dothalo 2. Open up your mainmenu.map 3. Scroll down to the [matg] Global tag, and double click to open it and click on globals/globals 4. Then in the tag-editor a) click on the "Multiplayer Maps" drop-down box and select a number (usually 12 if you havent added any maps) and if you have, then click on a number that has a -1 in the value spot and nothing else. b) Now choose a value of any number as long as it hasn't been used. Make sure the "Next Value?" has the same number. c) Put the name of your map in this space. You can fill out the other languages and stuff, but it's not needed. d) The description of your map goes here. e) Just put in the same thing I put here. 5. Once thats done, save the changes, fix the encryption, close the map, and ftp it to your xbox. you're also going to probably want h2loader, to let you choose between halo 2 1.0 and 1.1 that way the engine will not have any live updates. I want to see the mongoose ripped using Insolence and injected using insolence and darkmatter... I can help you out modding this stuff. If none of the Halo 2 tools work, I'm sure I could find some people to throw something together. but we can't do jack without the game to begin with. if you could just like, release a single map that is different from the retail version I could try to put it in and we'll work from there.
Well... XxHennersXx pretty much just fully explained the first step to try and get this to work. You might as well as add some of the Beta.maps into the retail Mainmenu.map and see if anything even loads! If not, many other things could be tried... Only problem is he didnt seem to Link you to any of the programs... I would but it seems that the site http://www.halomods.com is down, and thats my primary source. I am sure it will be up by the afternoon...
This is great news again and thanks XxHennersXx for helping capboy210 out on this. XxHennersXx has done a really good tut there but like he has said theres nothing that can be done with out a map sample or anything close really. Unless you find out how to do it yoursef that is.
Halomods is the same. We just need to rack up some poeple to come over here and do it. I sure with the things you have shown already they will be very interested!
Are you THE Lightning? I like your work. I am a friend of Tiamats. I doubt you remember me though, hahahaha!
It's from a different copy of the same era beta iirc. I can fairly easily port Entity over to extract the models to use in the vista toolset (see picture by lightning although that was done by kornman). All I would need is the first and last meg of the interesting maps, and full shared.map and single player shared.map (if this beta uses it). Lightning can vouch for me as far as knowing what i am doing and my integrity with files I am trusted with.
Oh hi, mr "I'ma decrypt ITG2 with people and did it" person. From what I know, Kornman was able to extract the tags from the H2X beta maps, and they were able to be opened in the Halo 2 editing kit (came with H2V). Khold has made numerous tools, and I know from my knowledge of working with the Halo engine that those two tag-filled maps could easily be cracked wide open, and tags successfully extracted. The thing is, they just need to be in the right hands, and I think Khold might just be that person. Also, Hi CrAzY Your name does ring a bell. And yes, that's me.
Well this certainly sounds interesting! I would love to see what we could find on that disc. Especially taking a look at all those wonderful Tags. Glad to see you slightly remember me!
