As much as I'd like to believe that the Halo 2 that was being worked on for the past three years will be an XBox Next launch title, I highly doubt it will be, and here's why: ****SPOILER ALERT!!!!****SPOILER ALERT!!!!****SPOILER ALERT!!!!****SPOILER ALERT!!!!****SPOILER ALERT!!!!****SPOILER ALERT!!!! The E3 footage, previews, etc. have the Covenant invading Earth, with the premise of wiping out humanity, as well as searching for a piece of Forerunner technology whose purpose was not mentioned (this was made over in the retail release of Halo 2 as being some sort of map or something that showed the location of the second Halo where the majority of the released game took place). In the Halo 2 we got, the Covenant is in shambles when the credits roll- the Prophets Mercy and Regret are both dead, the holy city High Charity is being infested by the flood, and the Prophet of Truth has taken the Ark to Earth to attempt to find the remote activation controls for Halo. The Elites have all but been cast out of the Covenant, and the Brutes are now in charge of the armies. There is almost no way that Bungie is going to get this ragged, last ditch Covenant effort to wipe out humanity and start their Great Journey into the massive invasion force shown in previews. I think we might have to accept that like the M2 version of D2 and countless other games, this one got away... :smt009 Pending some leak at Bungie, that is....
Conspiracy theory? Maybe...probably not. Heyos guys, I know I haven't posted in donkeys but I had to throw my own two cents into this. I've played through the game on Heroic so far and got caught off guard by the ending as everyone else seems to. Thought it was the next cut-scene for the next level. Was a bit annoyed but have grown to live with it, I agree they're saving the results for Halo3. Certainly if you delve deep enough then the story behind the whole Halo universe then ending it in the second game would be stupid but they could've certainly ended it in a slightly more "well that's the end of that chapter" way. That said, I dunno how many of you have bought and watched the extra stuff on the LE. I find most of it quite interesting, especially the rather frank look at the fallout from E3 as it seems to answer most of what the initial creator of the rant is talking about. Basically what various Bungie folks said (reading between the lines) on the video is that they didn't have any specific direction on going into E3. They came away from it with a bunch of ideas that they wanted to add and do but when it came to working out *how* to do what they wanted to do they couldn't do it in the "Set in stone" 9th Nov release date. So they had to drastically change the way they went about things...and, tbh, that's how it feels. It feels semi-rushed. What we saw in the E3 demo was basically something cobbled together from the game engine about what they wanted to do that got thrown out the window as the deadline approached. About the only conspiracy theory I see is why they decided on a set-in-stone release date when they apprently didn't have a proper direction to go in...seems daft to me. That could've either been MS pushing them or just them over estimating their ability, I dunno.
Then what the hell were they doing all those years? Seriously, it could not possibly take 3 years to make Halo 2's campaign or its crap matchmaking system. :smt083
All I can think off is that they spent most of those years re-writing the engine. Halo2's engine was completey re-written from the ground up from the info I've seen. So three years to "perfect" (I say perfect...those texture popups really annoyed me) the engine, decide on the story and how to handle the, frankly, annoying (I ain't gonna sidetrack this on an Public Custom game rant) new Optimatch system and then several months to throw the levels and gameplay together.
I liked the game a good bit. It wasn't as good as the first game, but I haven't seen too many sequels surpass the original game. I don't think there's some huge conspiracy involving a "Halo 1.5" or anything like that. I simply think that Bungie got a bit carried away with trying to satisfy fans (they had to show us something, so why not whip up a video with half-assed radio chatter in the background?). I do believe that they made have finished the game but cut it in half, however. It would make plenty of sense for them to "save" half of it for an Xbox 2 title. It would certainly push sales.
I wonder though...Do the voice actors know anything about this? Although i'm sure they finalised the script after any cuts were made, there is a chance that they may have recorded before making the cut...
I doubt most of them would remember or care. The "Mountain Dew guy" (I think that's where he's from) doesn't seem to be an avid gamer, as I'm sure most of the voice actors there aren't. If they did do voice acting for a script that was cut, I don't think they would care enough to say anything about it. I could be wrong though.
Depends on the voice actor. Hell, most the the voice actors for the MGS series arn't gamers, but they do have a pastion for their work. Even if it's a minor voice actor, they could still help a great bit. Hell, you never know when they may slip something. For example, the voice actor for Revolver Oclelot revealed in a interview that a younger Ocelot would be in MGS3, and that was BEFORE the first trailer showing him in it. Talk to the right people, and you will get your answer...
